GCI Switchback Reversing Coaster

TheCoasterCruiser

Giga Poster
This was just posted to GCI's YouTube.

Looks really cool. Would be a great addition to some smaller parks who needs a bigger attraction.

Has anyone bought their launched one yet.

I personally would still like the first drop to be there, it one of the best parts on a woodie.

Very interesting. I just feel like the 2 switchbacks would kill the pacing of the ride, but it looks like a neat concept.

I don't really like the way they used the switchback's in that ride. It would be cool to see what they could do with a terrain ride, so the switchback's are hidden, similar to Expedition Everest.

I'm also not entirely sold on the idea of basically sticking switch tracks on what's otherwise a fairly standard GCI wooden coaster. Part of the fun of a GCI is that fact that they're usually pretty relentless from first drop to brake run, so I don't see stopping the train completely half way through the ride to switch direction being good for pacing.

It could be a fun gimmick, but I don't see it as much more. I'd rather see them run a train backwards for the full circuit rather than take a standard woodie and do this.

If you ask me that looks like an awesome fun coaster. I'd certainly ride it. I like to look for new things in my creds

Anyone think its odd they CLEARLY show Elitch Gardens in the background of the video? Hmm....

They did the same with SFFT in their video of their recreation of Rye's Airplane coaster. It's just a backdrop and doesn't signify anything in particular.

Posted while reading your mind.

I don't think this concept will catch fire because they're other concepts have not and that is so Elitch gardens they will not add it because they already have a woodie.

Re: RE: GCI Switchback Reversing Coaster

Yes because parks are only allowed to have one wooden coaster...

I like the concept, I just think where they placed the switchbacks in the video are odd (well second one mostly) I would love to see a ride that just had one switchback, causing every other ride to alternate forwards and backwards. Have it right after brake run, then mini drop into station. Or right outside of station. Possibilities are endless but it adds moving parts, which equal more downtime. Reason there is only one tilt coaster in the world.

Seems to ruin the whole pacing of the ride. Woodies are meant to be fast and wild but this does seem a bit tame, nice idea though.

In the UK - none :(

Looks a bit average. Low capacity.

So expect to see this ride at Flamingoland in 2015.

Spot on... Or at Alton "World's first most pointless and disappointing wooden coaster!" :(

It has potential - I'm thinking it may be better if the first lift hill was backwards, so you got the full benefit of a long forwards section including first drop before a little backwards section to finish.

Not a fan, too gimmicky and pacing is all over the place. Switch into a backwards launch at the end of a standard woodie and then we'll talk.
