Food shopping deals/tips

As a student, I often find myself shopping around a fair bit and when I find an amazing deal or something similar, I tell all my friends so we can all share in the glorious savings!

So basically, I've started this topic so people can post any amazing supermarket savings/deals they find. Yay!

The best thing I've found so far is the Asda Smart Price tomato soup. It tastes exactly the same, if not better, than Heinz tomato soup, only the Asda one is 17p rather than the frankly outrageous 84p the thieving bastards at Heinz are after, a bargainous saving of 67p!

Recently I found Muller Rice at Asda, 12 for £3! It worked out at about a £4 saving I think

I dunno of any sales in particular that are in England but I always find that the Smart Ones microwavable meals are amazing and a decent price. It's enough to fill you up and it's healthy, nd it saves you from cooking anything :p .

Fill you up maybe...

Don't forget, some of us do have a body mass greater than that of a shrew. ;)

^ SHREW lmfao Hix you're on a comedic roll today, you made me laugh quite a few times :p .

Okay then eat two of them then, if it doesn't fill you up, you non-shrew.

This is probably going to be Ben & Jerry's watch.

ASDA seemingly always have B&Js on a 2 for £4 offer... ;)

Morrison's currently have 4 bottles of Bulmers Pear or Original cider for £5.50 at the moment, which has left me satisfied.

In some supermarket somewhere at any one time there's ALWAYS an offer which enables you to get branded (Heinz, HP, Branston) baked beans for 25p a tin.

It usually means buying a pack of four, or two packs of four, but the offer is always there.

And baked beans are about the only thing that I'll admit that are better when branded.

And if you have to buy 8 cans... who cares? You can never have enough beans in the cupboard, it's good "emergency" food.

Also, in Asda, Don Simon orange juice is seemingly always two cartons for £1.50. 75p a carton doesn't sound that great, until you realise that it is freshly squeezed orange juice, not that "from concentrate" crap. Visitors to my house can vouch for my appreciation of that offer. There's usually around 9-12 cartons of it on my shelf (I usually buy it in sixes or eights).

The only bad thing about it is that it's made me an orange juice snob, and if the offer ever stops, I'll still buy the stuff at its regular £1.25 price, because it's really nice... :(

I also love it when Asda do their own-brand fajita dinner kits for £1, but that hasn't happened for a long time now. I've got a feeling that one isn't coming back!

Oh and... three for a tenner wine is back at Asda, I think you can save around £13 there if you deliberately buy the most expensive wines... though that's just what they want you to think!

If I'm hungry then I usually go to ASDA in the evenings. They do some amazing deals on stock that are nearing their use by dates. They usually reprice them and stick them in the racks they push around. Got some amazing bargains.
Once got a MASSIVE cake that's usually one of those expensive ones that you can print your picture onto for £1.50 and all the drinks and snacks are cheap as well. :D

Fray Bentos pies are 2 for £2 in Asda atm (does all of CF shop at Asda?). Although you can get 2 for a £1 at Poundland...although they're **** flavours.

And why is everybody writing Asda in capitals? It's a combination of ASsociated DAiries (& Farm Stores Ltd) (thanks, Neal!), not an acronym. Thanks.

I was always a Tesco person until I moved to Southampton and live closer to Asda. However my mate works at Tesco so we all use his staff discount, which saves so so much money. I think both supermarkets are of equal cheapness and value for money.

Because that's how they do it in their logO:

;)

And I mainly shop at Tesco, but my guardian shops at Aldi, which does actually do very good deals on stuff you'd get in Asda, Tesco etc, like a 2l bottle of Coca-Cola for a quid most weeks, cheaper packs of choccies etc

Back to Asda, they currently have an offer of 80p for 2l bottles of major brand soft drinks - stock up people, almost a quid savings there!

Aldi are pretty good when it comes to cheap stuff but they mostly sell fruit and vegetables. I got a big bag of potatoes for about 35p from there before and they also sell maple syrup for £1.20, when in most shops it's usually £3.50 or more!

I guess I have some tips for the bigger supermarkets such as Tesco, Morrisons, etc. They try to trick you in every way to make you buy more - for example; "buy 3 for £2.50", when each is £1.00, so it's only a 50p saving. Ok so 50p might sound alright, BUT, are you really going to need 3 of them? They're just trying to tempt you with the saving. Also, check the expiry date. What if they go out of date soon? Then you've wasted money instead. Always check the expiry date on everything you buy, people seem to forget that. Also, supermarkets will always put the better deals on either the very top or very bottom shelf, just out of view. They put the more expensive items at eye level as most people don't tend to look at the very top/bottom. That's all I can think of for now xD

Aldi and Lidl are amazing for interesting food and something a bit different, but it's hard to do a "big shop" there, I find you just can't get all the essentials.

I hate food shopping, so if I can do it once at Asda, get everything I need, and put some petrol in my car on the way out, then it's quite a few birds with one stone, and I'm happy.

I get a Netto leaflet through the door every week and some of the deals look quite good, but it means going to Netto, and unless you're passing, it's just not worth the effort!

The big problem with places like Lidl and Aldi is that they are incredibly cheap for weird and non-branded products, but if you want to buy any thing else it's incredibly expensive. They make money by charging, for example, twice as much as regular supermarkets on big brans like Heinz etc.

Got a loaf of Tesco finest bread worth £1.22 for 18p yesterday and the sell by date isn't until Tuesday.

That's pretty awesome.

Recently Tesco has been selling Super Noodles for 3 for a pound instead of 60p each making an 80p saving........nice...
