I went to Thorpe Park for the first ever time on Friday :--D

Ride count:
Nemesis Inferno x3
Flying fish x1
Colossus x3
Loggers leap x1
Saw the ride x3
The Swarm x4

( the only coasters I didn't ride were Stealth and X)

The day started off with clear skies but that certainly changed later on. I started off with Nemesis Inferno. I rode this on the front row and sat in the seat next to where Will sat in that Inbetweeners episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXHtKdNelCQ

Its a nice ride, not as good as the original and not very intense either. I really liked the refreshing misty tunnel and the loop was fairly forceful. Its simply a very fun and reridable coaster that I would go on over and over again if it was a walk on. The queue was never longer than 20 minutes all day.

After this I headed to The Swarm but turned around to Colossus and Saw after seeing that the queue was 85 minutes and stealth was 45. On the way to them I had a quick ride on Flying fish for the +1 to my coaster count.

Queue for Colossus was only 10 minutes so I had two rides. It was awesome! Its not smooth and there is almost no legroom but it was a fantastic ride. Its reasonably long and quite intense. The quadruple heartline roll was very fun. In my opinion this is a little bit better than The Smiler.

I had a quick go on Loggers leap. It was alright. The drop was pretty good and it doesn't do much pointless winding around like the one at Alton Towers.

Next I rode Saw the ride. It had a 40 minute queue but I was happy to wait because I really wanted to see what it was like.
It was **** great! I got on the front row of the second train for the best and most immersive experience. "Heres what happens if you lose" The indoor drop really took me by surprise. It was steeper and bigger than I thought it was from the video and was followed by a fun inline twist over a dead body. Then it was "game over" and we went down the fun 100 degree 100 foot drop followed by an immelman, overbank, good airtime hill, great drop after mcbr and dive loop.

I've heard its rough. I didn't find it rough at all! Its not quite as smooth as B&M but there was no rattle, creaking noises or grinding along the track like I found on The Smiler. I actually thought it was better than The Smiler because it is fairly intense, has some good airtime and it actually has transition points unlike The Smiler which is inversion after inversion after inversion. I'm not the only one who thinks Saw is better am I?? It is currently my third favorite coaster.

After Saw we headed to a 60s themed KFC near Tidal Wave. Whilst we were having lunch a thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain shut everything down for about 45 minutes. Once it had died down I rushed to The Swarm and got straight on!

I rode Swarm 3 times on the left and once on the right. One of my rides was front row on the left. In my opinion it is better on the left because the first inversion and drop is better- it feels great when you go down and are slowly lifted back upside down with great hangtime before you drop. Also the near misses are better on the left.

Some people will not like what I have to say about The Swarm- it has replaced Nemesis as my favourite coaster! I rode just after the thunderstorm so it was dark and cloudy which fitted in with the theme of destruction. It is a coaster where you can simply sit back, relax and enjoy. The seats are comfortable and the ride is fairly intense and forceful but not so much that you get a headache after re rides like I did with Nemesis.

After four rides on The Swarm I had some more rides on Inferno, Colossus and Saw.

I can't wait to get back on Saw

In the Saw station

Finally, here is an ORP of me on Saw. The wind is blowing the back of my shirt up making me look like a hunchback.

Interesting report. As always it's nice to hear a first timers opinion.

Your opinions are very different to mine on most of the coasters, but my opinions of the coasters have changed dramatically over the years so I was probably similar to you in the beginning?

I agree with you about Saw; it's not that bad in certain seats and it's better than the Smiler. It's also better than Collosus which is **** awful!

Nemesis Inferno is excellent. I used to hate it but now it's my favourite coaster at the park. If you get a chance in the future; Ride it back row, it's a great ride!

Swarm is good. Nothing more, nothing less. What's interesting is that a lot of Thorpe newbies place it as their number 1 coaster so you're not alone. I'm shocked you place it above a Nemesis though, it's a good coaster but it doesn't do anything spectacular.

Stealth down?

Anyways, great report.

I can understand why some people don't like Colossus. I like it because my first two rides were great but my third was absolutely brutal. My ear is still sore from the head banging on the loop. If you keep your head forward you will escape the headbanging.

I will be riding Nemesis again later this summer so maybe I will change my mind. I will also be riding Oblivion for the first time which could be my number one if it lives up to expectations. The reason Swarm is currently my favourite is because it has a fun layout and it is very smooth and comfortable.

Stealth down?
In the morning it had very long queues and it closed for ages after the thunderstorm. When it reopened I was so busy having re rides on Swarm, Inferno etc that I eventually missed my chance. I will ride it first next time I go because it looks decent but I'm glad I missed Stealth rather than one of the other four major coasters because they have a lot more to them.

Swarm still after doing a ride backwards it made a bigger thing but I love it because the near misses are amazing front right outside seat lovely experience nemesis inferno as Darren said you have to sit at the back to love it. Also colossus is a hit and miss coaster if you get the miss its a top 10 coaster If you get a hit it HURTS. I don't like SAW its my least favourite but it loses it but where I sat it was comfortable.

Really good report! Interesting to see your opinions on the rides, they're quite different to my own. I do agree with you on Swarm though, it's easily the best ride at the park for me. Whilst it's not majorly intense/forceful, it has it's moments. (That amazing drop) It's certainly a really fun ride, which is incredibly re-ridable! Did you manage to get a ride backwards? It's not overly different, but it's certainly worth trying.

Shame you didn't get on Stealth, it's definitely the second best ride at the park, though the layout isn't exactly amazing, the launch packs a punch and is one of the best elements of any of the rides in the UK. Oh and believe me, you didn't miss out with X, it's dull.

I must admit, I actually prefer Inferno to Saw. I just feel it's got a more enjoyable layout. Saw only really has 4 stand out moments (Inside drop - Outside drop - Airtime hill - Airtime coming off MCBR) Everything else is either too dull or just too rough/uncomfortable. You may have been lucky with a smooth train, you can sometimes get them. But I still find the final inversion is too tight to enjoy.

Did you manage to get on any on any of the flats? Thorpe actually have a really decent selection!

I didn't bother with backwards because it added 10 minutes to the wait but it does look fun. I'll give it a try next time.

I enjoyed every second of Inferno, it was a great ride but I just loved how Saw had a story and was split into two halves. However I thought my front row ride on Inferno was better than any of my rides on Saw. It was my first time riding an invert at the front and I really enjoyed being able to see where you are going.

The only non coaster ride I did was Loggers leap. I would love to go again some day because I wouldn't have to worry about getting the coasters done which would allow me to try the flats, Tidal wave and the 4D cinema.

I'm glad you enjoyed the report :--D

Ah yeah, I wouldn't say Swarm backwards is worth queuing for, it's interesting but nothing majorly different. Did you manage to get on the front row at all (It's amazing on the front row)

Yeah I see what you mean about Saw, it's definitely a ride of two halves. And to be honest, that indoors drop is amazing, right? Ha it's probably one of the best drops at the park!

Ah I love loggers, so good choice there! I must admit I personally don't like Tidal Wave, after doing Storm Force 10 at Drayton it's rather boring. But yeah the flats are so good, Detonator is one of the best rides in the Uk, it's just fantastic! (And it barely ever has a queue!)

I did have a ride on the front left and it was amazing. It feels like you are going to fall out on the first drop!

The indoor drop was the best part of the ride and its one of the reasons I rate it so highly. I knew there was an indoor drop before riding but I had no idea what it was like because you can't see it in the Youtube POVs.

Detonator is part of Angry Birds land isn't it? I remember walking through Angry Birds land but I didn't do any of the attractions there. Next time I go to Thorpe I will ride Stealth and X for the credits and focus on trying stuff that I haven't done before such as Rush and Samurai.
