Europa Park |"Wodan"| GCI Wood

CF Legend
For several days now Europa park's Facebook page has been teasing fans with tiny bits of a poster advertising their addition for the 2012 season. Not so long ago they posted the below image...

So it looks like we have a woodie coming to Europa Park. Time to get all excited me thinks :D

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Didn't realise Mack made woodies... Oh well excuse to go back <3

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Not complaining, but why is it that everywhere in the world can see the potential for Woodies, apart from UK parks?

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

^^ Mack have actually made some wooden bob-sled coasters before they turned to steel...

NICE, I have heard rumours about Europa Park is getting a wooden coaster for some time now, but this will make it official in my books.

The rumours points to a GCI (and so does that image), which is nice, and that it may have more than one track...

Also I doubt that the ride will be called "Mythos" since the text in the banner translates to: "A myth is awaken" and the theme looks very Viking-ish...

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Hmmmm, may have to reconsider going there in October now. It might be better to wait and go next year instead.

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Ohhh orgasm!

Am I right in thinking that this is Mack's first proper wooden coaster (aside from some historical thing from the 1930s that doesn't exist any more)? If so, this is a very interesting development for an already award-winning park.

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

^EPfans (the official fansite) say it's gonna be a GCI, so hopes for a Mack Wooden are to be crushed it seems :(

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Ohh well, lets build new dreams...a new Troy huzzah!

Edit: the banner Peep posted appears to come from the official fb page, no?

Am I right in thinking that someone didn't read the topic?

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

^Yes, it indeed came from their official Facebook page. However the fansite seems to have a fair bit of info.

*tracks it down again and translates it*

Name: An even more closely guarded secret!

Construction time: 9 months

Size: 1.6 acres

Length: 1050 feet

Height: 35 meters

Speed: About 100 km / h

Max Vertical Acceleration: 3.5 G

Minimum height: 1.20 meters

Manufacturer: Great Coasters International, Inc

approximately 1,000 cubic meters of wood

1.6 million nails

Capacity: 18,000 visitors / day

Construction workers: up to 36 carpenters

New jobs: 20

Special feature: the intersection of two other rail attractions

So it should be somewhat interesting, what's the height and length of Troy? I thinking it could be something similar in scale.

Apparently it's also going to be located between Blue Fire and Atlantica.

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Well I'd take them stats with the smallest pinch of salt....1050ft long?

Zipper Dipper/Blue Flyer is 1099ft in lenght...

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Troy (rom RCDB):

Length: 3534'
Height: 104' 6"
Drop: 100' 8"
Inversions: 0
Speed: 54 mph
Duration: 1:50
G-Force: 2.4

..so 3.5 G would be very powerful for a woodie

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Yeah, that measurement was in metres, not feet, silly translator :p

Oi Be-atch, I just read that, what did I miss?

'Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012' - says nothing to do with Mack!!

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Interesting.

Literally just a moment ago, GCI have pretty much confirmed they will be doing the coaster by posting "Have you heard the good news?" and the banner from Europa's Facebook wall. I say that's confirmed then.

Never been to Europa, would love to go. 2012 would be a good year to take a weekend or so there perhaps...

Re: Mythos - wooden coaster - Europa Park 2012

Viking coaster? Wonderful!

That's a stave church in that banner. Even more wonderful...

Oh, and by the way, I know this is way beond generalization, but have anybody looked at how the GCIs fare in the polls compared to their height? With a few exceptions, it looks like the bigger they are, the better the people think of them (as long as they are built after 2000, that is). This one, being 35 metres tall, would be the tallest free standing GCI out there...

You'll have to explain the "free standing" part to me. I looked at RCDB and Mountain Flyer is taller. http://www.rcdb.com/m/9039.htm
