Enthusiast clubs with membership fees

Hi guys,

Are any of you members of other coaster clubs or groups besides being on Coasterforce? I have been wondering whether it was worth it or not for a while now and thought that it would be good to hear other people's opinions and experiences.

Thanks :)

The kid and I have been part of groups like Coaster Crew and Coaster Zombies in the past. They both have a low membership fee ($10) and we liked participating in some of the exclusives that membership in those groups offer like Cedar Point's CoasterMania, Knott's Berry Farm's Coaster Solace and Kings Dominion's Intimidation events.

I'm a member of the European Coaster Club, as I think a lot of other guys on here are. I've never taken advantage of any of the trips, but I think it's worth it for First Drop alone; the magazine they publish three or four times a year. It has a lot of great, unbiased trip reports as well as news updates that I don't see on here or Screamscape beforehand.

Obviously it doesn't have the sense of community that CoasterForce does though :--D

Thanks for the replies ECG and Casio!

$10 is a pretty good price for membership if you get those extras with it!

Personally, I've been wondering specifically about ECC and RCCGB (Rollercoaster Club of Great Britain) so it's good to hear those things about ECC.

:)

I renewed my ECC membership this year, but I'm allowing ACE to lapse until I either got out of college or get back into coasters more.

I'm not a member but the ECC membership comes with a card which has a whole host of great discounts for European theme park tickets.

But apart from that I don't know why you'd want to spend money on a club when CoasterForce is free and awesome :p

From the RCCGB members I've met and seen, you have to be at least 50 years old to join. :p

It all depends what you want from this hobby. If you feel the need to attend loads of events and meet like-minded people then joining a club is for you.

My advice is to look at group photos and make a snap judgment based on their appearance; namely the average age on the amount of rollercoaster clothing they're wearing. The last thing you want is to turn up to an event and meet people who only talk about 80's politics (although I'd like that!) and like to measure the width of supports.

Also look at what you get for your money. If you get a free magazine and you think it's worth the money, go for it. If a membership card allows you discounted entry into parks where there are no other offers available, then go for it.

As for me personally, I'm not a member of any theme park club. I'm content with reading news on CF, meeting people at parks and enjoying the rides.

I would have paid to join CF. They usually take your soul. It was free for me, though, since I'm an apathetic git.

Posted while reading your mind.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I am mainly interested in meeting coaster people and merchandise to show my inner nerd. :D I will have to try and get to some of the CF meet ups!
