Donna Nook

Martyn B

CF Legend
Last Friday, with the weather being lovely, we took a trip up to Donna Nook in Lincolnshire. For those who have never heard of it before:

Donna Nook on the north-eastern coast of Lincolnshire is a seal watchers' paradise.

It boasts one of the largest and most accessible breeding colonies of Grey Seals in the UK.

An encounter with a seal at Donna Nook is almost guaranteed because this is effectively a seal maternity hospital.

For much of the year grey seals at the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trusts’ Donna Nook National Nature Reserve are at sea or hauled out on distant sandbanks.
Every November and December, the seals give birth to their pups near the sand dunes: a wildlife spectacle which attracts visitors from across the UK.

I'm not exactly a seal watcher by any means, but I have been wanting to go here for a few years now, and seeing as we were in the area (sort of), we thought why not. On with the pics:

We were there for around 40 mins I think, and I quite enjoyed it. It was something different, and it was nice to witness nature at its cutest! Though the noises coming from pups were a bit disturbing, they really did sound like groaning babies!

Seals always look depressed, like they look in the mirror and go "do I look fat in this" and the answer is always "yes".

I've never heard of the place, but if I'm ever in the area it's top of my list to visit. We did the seal sanctuary in Skegness and it was fab, but this looks better :)

Yeah, I used to see quite a few wild seals when I lived up in Scarborough, and they always look a bit miserable.

That's why I prefer looking at dolphins in tiny pools, performing tricks or being made to swim with tourists. They always have a happy smile on their face because they clearly love it.

The baby seals look lovely though. I might have to head up there, preferably on a quiet evening. I need a new winter coat.

I thought the ones in Lincolnshire were all unhappy because Jubilee Odyssey was closed on their visit yet again?

WHAT, I didn't know seals were in the UK just prancing around! That's so fab, I'll have to go one day, although they all look a bit dead or sad.

You try giving birth on a cold beach in England in front of ogling strangers and see how alive you look :p
