Chessington continue expanding their zoo

This year Chessington is expanding their zoo. There will be a completely new area behind Creature Features and the hotel called African Savannah. Construction only started last month and yet it already looks completely different....

This is what we think is the stables for the new animals (Zebra, Antelope and something else).

A lot of groundwork has been done for new paths from Creature features and between the new area and the hotel...

A new viewing platform is half way to completion too...

The second thing in construction currently is a new expansion for the Gorilla enclosure. Many animal activists have complained to the park about the size of the enclosure and with several babies born over the last few years the last small expansion was not enough. An entire part of the pathway for Trail of the Kings has been closed of for construction, a temporary pathway links the viewing area of the Gorillas with the viewing area of the Tigers.

That looks like that's everything at the moment. I will try and keep everyone updated whenever I go to Chessie.[/youtube]

Well Done Chessie to making a very nice African looking building and looks like Merlin are taking a leaf out of Disney's book with the Animal Kingdom Lodge in WDW.

This is quite exciting. I think once this is done, Chessie really will be a place worth visiting for just the zoo when the rest of the park is closed. Would these sorts of animals be out in winter though?

NEW Wanyama Village & Reserve
From Saturday 29th May, Adventurers can journey through the new Wanyama Village & Reserve, an African inspired adventure with Zebras, Antelope and the very rare Scimitar Horned Oryx. A raised wooden walkway leads to a viewing tower, where the animals can be seen grazing before your very eyes!

I'm personally really suprised it's opening in May now considering they said July on park from opening... Plaudits to Chessie here methinks...

I'm really glad they have managed to get this open so soon, really can't wait to see what the finished area is like.

This is Phase 1 of the Safari experience...

They have many more phases of intergration planned, it's more fair on the new animals this way so they can get used to their new home without going 'OMG WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING DRIVING AT ME?!' :lol:

Not worth a whole new topic. Chessington have just posted on their facebook that they're looking for people who would be celebrating their 21st Birthdays at Chessie. Anyone? Peter?

I like the way they're incorporating the hotel a lot more. Is thorpe going to feel left out from Alton and Chessie, not for not having a ride like rameses or ripsaw, but fro not having its own hotel? Hotel stays will be so much better with this addition.

^I think it's planned within the next few years. I'd saw it's on a similar size of Chesingtons if not slightly bigger. And there's going to a boat to take hotel guests to the park.
If I can find the plans again I'll post them.

Well, it was open today...

But it really wasn't finished... But two months ago it was dirt and steel... So they've done well to get it mostly ready...

And they're getting more animals in the coming weeks... The gazelles, two more zebras and some ostriches...

It has a lot of potential, and they've completely re-done Creature Features in that it doesn't exist anymore, they're moving all the smaller animals (ferrets, skunks) to the Children's Zoo and bringing in African ones...

Give it a few weeks and it will be immense...
