Thought this was worthy of its own thread - with the addition of Valravn in 2016, Cedar Point will be repainting Raptor as added value to the west side of the park. TTD will also be receiving 2 years worth of TLC and repaint. Raptor was last repainted in 2002, and TTD opened in 2003 - so plenty of time (and seagull poo) has lapsed and accumulated on the tracks!

Both rides will maintain their original colors

You can watch live cams of both roller coasters (and Valravn construction) at Cedar Point's website: https://www.cedarpoint.com/online-fun/live-video-cam

Baynum Painting - the company performing the repaint on TTD - is also running a blog of their huge paint project, with great photos of the action: https://baynumpainting.wordpress.com/20 ... edarpoint/

You beat me to it, I think a little bit of excrement would leave my being if I had to do that.
If I was up there the top half would be an eye catching shade of brown.

It's a shame they've missed the chance to re-theme Raptor. It's a bit old hat now.

Banshee trains, new colour & name would be a fantastic rejuvenation in my opinion. It's worked wonders for Rougarou.

^Banshee trains can't happen. The ones on Banshee are wider than the traditional ones to accommodate for the vest restraint if I'm correct. This presents issues with the furthest heartline from the central one being further than it is on a 1st gen invert. Not only would it mess with the forces but also the clearance envelope around which it was designed. We have seagulls and schoolteachers and all sorts of things getting into that envelope all the time as it is, do we need to make it bigger? :p

Could see a bit more love beyond the paint, though. Cleaning that gross station and reprinting it would be nice. Adding to the lighting package would be great as well.

I'm sure you can bank on the station being refreshed as well.

I would love to see a banshee train retrofit, but it hasn't been shown to be in the cards.

...yet?

Or at least; converting stand-up to floorless is certainly understandable given the more popular riding position. Spending the money on new inverted trains which would accomplish the same experience, only with slightly more comfortable restraints, may be a tough expense to rationalize.

^^^Yeah, heartlining and train envelopes would be issues. But I do agree, a revamp of the ride would be nice. For example, theming some of these 20 foot footers would be nice:

Still don't understand why they put a footer in when they easily could've put in a steel beam or something.

Raptor is perfect. :p IMO the new vest restraints would hurt the ride more than they could help it. There's basically zero breathing room in those vests. It's one of the reasons I'm iffy about Valravn.

New paint is progressing, Tony Clark tweeted out these photos showing the contrast - looking good!

Top Thrill Dragster looks amazing. Can't wait to see the whole ride brought back to it's former glory! It's a pretty stunning ride to stand next to, but these new vibrant colours are going to make it stand out even more. I'm very impressed.

I'm having a hard time seeing what they've actually done to Raptor, is it just the bottom of the supports in that picture?

^ Yup, that's correct - just the lower supports have the new coat of paint. looking forward to those wide angle shots of both Raptor and Valravn. :)

That right there's what happens when you flunk out of engineering school but still really want to work in the industry.
