Cedar Fair 2014 New Rides

CPSFMMCW

Mega Poster
Well, theres one for Six Flags, so why not one for Cedar Fair? So, what could the parks be getting? We all know kings island will be getting a coaster. What about Carowinds? that could happen. Valleyfair needs a new coaster pretty bad. What do you guys think? Which parks could get new rides?

This isn't news and there are no rumors being discussed.

Moved to General Discussion, Polls, and Opinions.

WoF needs a new coaster. Prowler was the last new coaster, and that was in 2009. I would love to see either a B&M Wing rider, floorless, or even an RMC woodie at my homepark.

Although Dorney, Worlds of Fun, and Valleyfair are overdue for something new, KI seems to be the only one in this chain that has a thrilling new ride for next year.

something tells me we probably won't see dorney get a new coaster till 2015. But I hope valleyfair and Worlds of fun gets one 2014!

I've been hearing for a little while, and now Screamscape has this up too, that KBF will remove Windseeker and send it to Worlds of Fun, where it will replace their go-karts. Seems very likely to me, Windseeker has been SBNO pretty much the whole time it's existed, and WoF is easily next on the list to get one. YUMMY views of the park and downtown KC from the top, too.

WoF getting Knotts windseeker makes sense. If banshee does really well, they should send another one to Valleyfair. they not only need a big new coaster, but an invert would do great there.

If KBF were to remove Windseeker and move it to WoF, it would do well, but it was also open up a great opportunity for KBF.

Rip out Jaguar, as they have four family coasters, Coastrider, Pony Express, Sierra Sidewinder, and Jaguar. Not to mention the kiddie cred. Simply put, they need life in an area not named ghost town or boardwalk. With a renovation of the Jaguar queue, you could make it fit a larger type ride, say, the long long long rumored giga/hyper. Turn out of station, lift toward Silver Bullet, keep the ride in that area, track through loop of Montezooma still, and there you go.

It won't happen though.

The trick is removing a 300 ft. tall steel tower.

You can't exactly do what Cedar Point did.

Quoting this post completely from another forum cause I can't be arsed to reword it to fit this discussion, but those wishing for VF to get a coaster need to wait another year. Especially since Cedar Point is rumored to be getting a "hallmark" dark-ride for 2014.

The NewsPlusNotes web site: http://newsplusnotes.blogspot.com/ had a very nice write-up of the 2013 2nd quarter results / CEO discussion from Cedar Fair. The final part of the CEO discussion were the plans for new attractions for the park chain in 2014.

One non-ride item was the "Cash Free" wristbands that were piloted at Dorney park in PA this year. (You purchase a band with a pre-set amount of money and use that band to pay for food & merchandise. (Not sure if this wristband could be accepted for games and carts; or, if you can replenish the amount on the wristband). Anyway, Matt Ouimet was pleased with the results and said they would be rolling this out on a "modified" basis to other parks in the chain next year.

We now know that Kings Island is receiving a 7-inversion, B&M inverted coaster named "Banshee" for 2014. (Course, the ride anouncement did not happen until after the 2nd quarter results / CEO discussion. So nothing was mentioned during the meeting).

Kings Island is supposedly the only Cedar Fair park to get a coaster for 2014. If Cedar Fair is budgeting the same amount of money for capital investment across the chain for 2014 as they did for 2013 that could mean an extra 15-20 million dollars to spread out amongst the rest of the parks. Below, I quoted what was taken from the CEO discussion for 2014.

Last but not least - he made mention of some new attractions that will open at the Cedar Fair parks next year including:

• Family rides at several of the parks
• An "innovating interactive dark ride" that they expect to set new standards in the industry
• Water Park expansions
• Renovations of legacy attractions a la Timber Mountain at Knott's
• An "expansive" set of new live entertainment shows at the parks

I've heard rumors that the dark ride is going to be for Cedar Point.

The whole article this guy was referencing is here: http://newsplusnotes.blogspot.com/2013/ ... -2014.html

My official predictions:

Kings Dominion should get the water park expansion

I heard a rumor that WoF might also get an oceans of fun expansion, along with the windseeker from Knott's

californias great america will probably get shows

michigans adventure get kid rides?

CP dark ride

kid rides to canada's wonderland?

I have no idea what could go to valleyfair, carowinds, knott's and dorney

It is important to emphasize the popularity of Oceans of Fun at WoF. WoF has a separate water park pass, which sees a huge draw in Kansas City. An expansion there would definitely make a lot of sense.

^Changed this year, it is one ticket and the water park BOOMED in popularity. Schlitterbahn KC is making big improvements to compete, which is the real reason they made it a combo since it was stealing business.

They've been focusing a lot on Oceans of Fun in the last couple years. Gotta compete with Schlitterbahn. Since Prowler, the main projects have been new Haunt attractions, OoF expansions, and Planet Snoopy (and Dinosaurs Alive... whatever...).

I'm sure they'll continue with the major additions to Oof, but they've left the main amusement park alone for a few too many seasons in a row now. And other than the carousel from Geauga, the last addition to the park that wasn't a roller coaster or a kiddie ride was Thunderhawk in 2002 (which is hardly ever even open anymore). I was surprised they didn't get a Windseeker back when everyone else was getting Windseekers.

Valleyfair will probably get nothing yet again, but they deserve a new coaster probably more than any other park in the chain. Maybe 2015? 2016? They added Planet Snoopy and Dinosaurs recently (and painted poor Corkscrew that horrible, horrible color), and they've been getting a few waterpark improvements, so next item on the list should be a thrill ride or roller coaster. It's a pity this park has been a bit neglected, it's such a nice-looking place, and so well loved in the Twin Cities.

Canada's Wonderland... I have a feeling they're gearing up for another coaster in 2015 or 2016. Hopefully they knock down Flight Deck. I have to say the attention Cedar Fair has given CWo since the Paramount takeover has been one of my favorite things in the whole industry. I can't think why Paramount didn't tap into its potential. Cedar Fair is clearly trying to make it one of the world's absolute top amusement parks, and I think they're getting there. One or two more majorly good rides like Behemoth and Leviathan (maybe an accelerator and a better invert or a wing coaster) and it will be in great shape. They've already got an unbelievable selection of flat rides and a lot of very nice kiddie and family stuff.
