Boy falls from Japanese coaster

On Tuesday, a 6 year old boy was thrown from the Space Coaster at Wonderland in Fukui, Japan. He fell approximately 4m to the ground, suffering a fractured rib.

The steel Wild Mouse coaster features the small 2-seater cars commonly found on the wooden versions, where riders are restrained only by a seat belt. The belt was found to be undone when investigated after the accident.

Police raided the offices of the park's operator, Sekiyama Kanko, on Wednesday searching for information to aid their investigation.

Not good, those rides are death traps though, by the sounds of things, the child either undone his seat belt or the ride operaters didn't buckle it up in the first place. I hope the boy is ok and those awful rides get destroyed!

Bucket coaster!

There's so many of those over there. You basically sit on the floor of the car with an automobile seatbelt on you. The only way to 'fall out' would be to unbuckle the seat belt and stand up, as there is rarely any kind of low-G on them, let alone true negative g's.

He almost 100% definitely stood up. Youd be surprised how common that is. People are dumb, especially kids.

The real question is how the staff dealt with the accident.

My prayers are with the boy and his family.

All rides are if the restraints aren't functioning, surely? Intamin freefall towers? Death traps as shown in Brazil last year. Wooden coasters fracture and crash as Blackpool proved with the Big Dipper. Train rides always decapitate drivers (Gullivers).

If a ride (type) has been running without incident for decades, it's not a death trap. It may look unsafe, but if the ride has low forces and the restraints have been keeping people in previously, then it's fine.
