Blackpool pleasure beach August 10th 2012

I did not take any photos unfortunately so this is a written trip report which I know is a bit boring but I will try not to write too much.

The city of Blackpool is renowned for being run down and just not a pleasant place too visit, however, this is not the case with the pleasure beach as I think it is a nice park that pretty much has everything you would need to have a great park. Great woodie collection but not so amazing steel collection. Nickelodeon land is the only themed area in the park but, rides like Valhalla have extensive theming. Overall I think the pleasure beach is a nice place to visit that has a very different feel to it than most parks in its history and the way the park is layed out. Park rating: 8.5/10

Rides:

Ice Blast: This is a S&S Space Shot that launches you up too nearly 180ft and then falls back down to earth and bounces a bit before coming to the very bottom of the tower. I don't find launch towers anywhere near a thrilling as drop towers unless they have great airtime at the top which Ice Blast does not have, which makes the ride a little boring for me. Ride Rating: 6.5/10

Wild Mouse: The pleasure beaches wild mouse is one of only 3 remaining wooden wild mouse coasters in the world (the other 2 being in Australia). It provides a unique experience of a total insane, out of control feeling which I love. There is extreme airtime and laterals with only a seat belt as a restraint which provides an exciting, possibly unsafe ride. This is my favourite coaster at the pleasure beach just for its pure fun and unique experience. Ride Rating: 9/10.

Blue Flyer: this ride is only really a small woodie for kids that provides a few little drops and a long tunnel. For what the ride is its a fun. Ride Rating: 4/10

Nickelodeon Streak: NS may be a family woodie but on this visit I was blown away by the floater airtime on some of hills which made a really unexpected surprise. Maybe not blown away but I was surprised by the airtime and it made the ride a real trip bonus for me. It's a really fun coaster and probably my 3rd favourite coaster Blackpool (a bit better than Big Dipper). Ride Rating: 7.5/10

Grand National: the Nash is an awesome classic woodie with some cool features like the double down and racing element. It's got airtime on pretty much every hill that can sometimes take you by surprise. For me the racing element doesn't add the ride experience but for some it probably does. It's not really rough, surprisingly enough for its age, unless you ride very back row which is painful. Ride Rating: 9/10

Valhalla: Valhalla is an extensively themed enclosed water ride with an exciting, long layout with 3 drops
And the last one being very wet. This is my Favourite water ride in Europe and my second favourite in the world
Because it has amazing theming and a brilliant layout that's just so much fun and totally soaking. I can barely fault the ride although it is a bit bumpy but, for me that does not spoil the ride at all. By far the best ride a the pleasure beach IMO. Ride Rating: 10/10

Steeplechase: Possibly the most unique coaster on the planet. This the only ride of its type left in the world where you straddle a horse and race against two horses on a single rail track. This ride will never get in to my favourite coasters list but it is a different experience that you can't get anywhere else and it is fun although a bit rough. Ride Rating: 6/10

Big Dipper: This is one of the oldest remaining coasters in the world and the oldest at the pleasure beach. It is a pretty average and dull woodie apart from one huge bit of ejector air going over the second hill which really takes you by surprise. It's a shame the rest of the ride is so dull because it could be great but, I prefer Nick Streak. Ride Rating: 7/10

Infusion: Infusion is one of 3 Vekoma SLC's that I have ridden, the other 2 being Blue Tornado and Flight Deck (which I can barely remember). It is quite an inconsistent ride in terms of roughness but it is usually okay however, it does have some head banging and jerking. I like this ride but I prefer Blue Tornado because it has less head banging. Ride Rating: 7/10

Revolution: This is another of the pleasure beaches rather unique coasters as there is not many of these arrow models left. I have a bit of a soft spot for revolution because it may be short and not very thrilling or interesting compared to the big monsters being built today but there is no head banging, some really great airtime, an intense loop and a backwards section. My favourite steel coaster at the pleasure beach.
Ride Rating: 7/10

The Big One: It may be a coaster landmark, it may be the tallest coaster in the uk, it may be the pleasure beaches standout attraction, but it is not the best in any way. I think this coaster is very overrated because it is rough and has a boring layout with no airtime. This first drop is quite good and pretty scary as all you can see is the ocean but it is all downhill from there unfortunately. I don't what is so great about this ride.
Ride Rating: 6.5/10

That is the end of my Blackpool Pleasure Beach update. Thank you for reading.

Great review, i haven't been down there for 16 years but we are planning to go next year. I have to agree with you that The Grand National is great & The Revolution is still one of my faves. The Big One is pretty average after that first drop, I remember my brother & i rode that when it & Nemesis had just opended in '94 & Nemesis just pissed on it & probably still does. Nickelodeon Streak was just the plain old Rollercoaster when i was there last but looks better with it's fancy paint job. I am however looking forward to Infusion. :)

Did you not ride Avalanche? Heathen!

I hate Avalanche because like all mack bobsleighs it makes a horrible vibration all the way round and I find it really painful but no one else seems to which I don't understand.

Nope, I don't understand  It's one of my favourite rides in the UK :)

Naturally there is a gentle rumble on the Mack Bobsleigh's, but its hardly noticable, and to say its painfull..... you must be a giant wus!

painful was probably the wrong word but there is just a constant vibration on them which is annoying cuts down on the enjoyment for me.

I can see how you say that the the big has no airtime, but rough?
For someone to say that Nash isn't, but the big one is must be doing something wrong on it.

The Nash is not that rough if you avoid certain seats but the Big One for a steel coaster is pretty rough I think.

Agreed... The Nash is very seat dependent. You can have a superb ride on it, or one that cripples you.

I always find The Big One rough though no matter where you sit. It's not as bad as The Nash when it's bad, and probably not as bad as The Nash when it's behaving itself - but with The Nash, you get the benefit of it delivering tons and tons of great ride when it's behaving so you notice it less. The pain:pleasure ratio works better.
