I don't think that this has had it's own topic, so here goes.
Who makes the best woodens ?
For now, I will have to go with GCI. Most are in my top 50; only one was too rough. Most of the other builders have only given me one credit (CCI, Gravity Group, Intamin). Philadelphia Toboggan has built a lot of "classic" out-and-backs. Only a few stand out (Comet - Hershey, Racer - KI). Dinn made a couple good ones but they also made some turkeys.

I disapprove of a large selection of their steel coasters, but Colossos! <3

If Jerry is to be believed (and I could roll with that most days of the week to be fair), Toro is also nom. So, Intamin :P

I couldn't give one about airtime and would rather a decent mix of everything. Loved my only CCI, Loved my only Gravity Group ride.

Gravity Group being the child company of CCI's death, it has to be them.

Well, my # 1 woodie was made by Philladelphia Toboggan, but I know that GCI has made a lot of great woodies. So, GCI.

Well, in my top ten, two are made from Gravity Group. Although Gravity Group makes some dang good wooden coasters, and as do GCI, I think Intamin has to be the most consistent. All of their coasters look really, really good, so I'm gonna go with them, with Gravity Group as a second.

Well this is a hard one, since there isn't a manufacturer of woodies that have blown me away on all their coasters...

I have been on:

GCI - 2 retrack jobs, which of one is great but the other one is worse then it was, I have also been on 2 full GCI ones, and they have been awesome.

Ingenieur-Holzbau Cordes - Smooth and pretty boring coaster...

Intamin - 3 "new" ones which have all been some of the best coasters I have ever been on, but the 3 "old" ones are pure death with square wheels, not pleasant at all...

S&S - The one I have been on had been re-tracked by GCI and I actually enjoyed the layout and the coaster as such...

Togo/RCCA - Complete DEATH!!

Vekoma - Thudercoaster was ace but then GCI ruined it, Robin Hood have a big square wheel problem though...

So I'm not sure what to vote...

CCI made my number one, GG my number two, PTC my number three, GCI my numbers four and five and Intamin my number six, so I find it pretty hard to narrow this down.

CCI made Boulder Dash which is incredible, Silver Comet which is great and Stampida was pretty good when it was a pure CCI. But, they also made stuff like Asterix's Zeus. Which just hurts.

I've only done one GG, Ravine Flyer II, which is amazing, and Voyage etc. look great. But, they are a bit rough around the edges. I don't mind, but, it puts others off a bit.

PTC are VERY hit and miss. A no to them.

GCI are AWESOME. They're older things SUCK like Roar(s) and Hershey's Wildcat, but, Terminator, Troy and Lightening Racer all rule. Plus, their other coasters I haven't done almost all look amazing. Prowler, El Toro, Thunderbird, Thunderhead...

Intamin are great, but, a bit one trick. Colossos and Toro are basically the same coaster, though Colossos is better :P Yes, you do lovely airtime, but, that's it.

I think I'd have to go with GCI for this one. OK, they don't make an appearance until number 4 on my list, but, almost everything is solid and awesome now (they've thankfully stopped producing their old crap!). So, GCI <3

CCI did make Boulder Dash and Cornball Express.. but the rest have been meh at best.
GCI has Evel Kinevel.. and the rest are barely above average.
Intamin made, of course, Toro.. and some of the other best woodies in the world from my looks at things.
GG has Voyage and RFII.. two massively delicious coasters.. and the rest seem to be outstanding too.
The rest aren't worth mentioning.

So far, Gravity Group seem to have the most consistent success with what they have built, which is enhanced by the fact that they only have a few coasters out there. Fireball looks amazing, as does Boardwalk Bullet. Hades looks meh, but to have 1 meh out of 5 notable rides is a success in my book.

Not discounting Intamin either, as T-Express honestly looks like the best coaster in the world.

You're trying to tell me rides like Terminator, Troy, Prowler, Renegade, El Toro, Thunderhead... are all "barely above average"...?

:?

I voted for Intamin. I haven't been on one (yet) but their pre-fabs truly look like the best.

GCI's coasters are a close second. I've only been on Terminator and Roar, but I really enjoyed both. The rest of their rides (besides Gwazi...) also look really good and I think I would enjoy all of them. Still though, I think if I rode all of Intamin's wooden coasters and all of GCI's coasters, the Intamin's would kill all the GCI's.

Not impressed with GG. They've made some amazing layouts, but they're rides are just too rough and won't last long. I think the Timberliners will definitely help Voyage (which is the only GG I've been on, and yes, I liked it, but if I were to ride it about 5 years from now, without Timberliners, it'd be a mess) but until I see Timberliners on all of their coasters (and see that they help) Gravity Group is far from the best wooden coaster designer imo.

CCI's rides are an example of GG's rides after 10 years without Timberliners...

Yah, I thought that was a bit strange as well. Prowler looks amazing, Troy looks good, Terminator looks like Evel Knievel which we both liked.. Rumbler wasn't great and I don't think Renegade looks ridiculously awesome either but, still :P

My favourite wooden coaster is from intamin, and T Express is the top rated wooden coaster in the MHP, so by that I vote Intamin.

I was only talking about rides I had been on. Also why GG is my favorite builder, as they sit at #4 and #6.. while CCI is #1 and #10.. and Intamin is just #2.

I just went on to add a little about why.. :P

Only Terminator
Ben is spot on & I hate to say this Brad, but you don't have a clue. El Toro is the best coaster of it's size on the planet, well at least until I get a chance to ride Prowler.

So how can I possibly pick one?
Intamin built the coaster closest to my heart in El Toro @ SFGAdv (my #2) as well as Colossus at Heide (#4); CCI built Boulder Dash (#1), Cornball Express (#7) & Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain (#16); GCI built El Toro @Plohn (#9), Lightning Racer (#10), Thunderhead (#11) & Prowler (soon baby soon); GG built Voyage (#3) & Ravine Flyer II (#5); PTC built Phoenix (#6) & Swamp Fox (my 1st non-kiddie coaster); so it's very hard to choose one over the other.
I'm tempted to pick CCI because in addition to those mentioned above, they also built some other classics like Silver Comet, Great White & Shivering Timbers as well as coasters that only I seem to enjoy in Legend, GhostRider & Boss. But then PTC built Thunder Road (my only backwards coaster), plus classics like GASM, Rebel Yell, Comet @Waldy & another coaster that only I seem to like in Wild Beast. In addition to Evel Knievel & Terminator Salvation, GCI also built a couple that only I like as well in Roar & Gwazi, so how do I really pick just one? I need more time to think about this.

I thought long and hard over this one, and I am not going to vote.

I do not think I have been on enough to give a fair answer.

Out of that list I have only really on 2 Intamins, one was good one was average even though its rated high on most peoples list.

So taking into account what Ben, Furie, ECG, Mike, Jake and loads of other people say about a certain coaster in the USA I will not vote until I have been on enough :)

It's blatantly this guy:

By far the best woodie I as on is El Toro and it was amazing! So I vote for Intamin, also looking forward to riding Colossos next year.
