Best Coaster or ride in Vegas

Edward M

Strata Poster
I am going to Vegas soon and wanted to ride a coaster. While I prefer a coaster, I love flats too. I was wondering what the best is. I really want to stay in Vegas, so no Desperado or me. I want one that is a cab away.

Well there is not really a great choice... CircusCircus (mini indoor park, one big coaster few flats), Stratosphere (3 silly rides at the top of the tower and a freefall from it) and NewYorkNewYork (1 big coaster, looks better than it is) are your strip based options.

There is a zipline down Fremont Street in the old city center (or at least there was 12 months ago).

For what its worth the stuff at the Stratosphere gets my vote as the best rides; if only for the view.

Circus Circus is vile.

The coaster at New York New York was vile.

They wouldn't let me on the rides on the Strat because I was to drunk (wtf? It's Vegas FFS).

The best ride is probably the shuttle loop going in at Akita Plaza, the thing that used to be at the Sahara casino.

^ I thought you did the freefall thingy at the Strat?

Agree that the coasters are not good though.

(in related news, guess where I am going at the end of next week?)

Best flat ride in Vegas - X-Scream at the Stratosphere. There is nothing like a see-saw... 1,148 feet in the air.

Insanity is also a great flat atop Stratosphere, completely suspending riders over the edge. I would recommend skipping their S&S skyshot; it has been drastically neutered over the years and pails in comparison to other S&S shot towers, even given its height.

For roller coasters, with Speed still in pieces behind Circus Circus, Canyon Blaster in the Adventuredome takes the cake. It is actually a very smooth Arrow Double loop/corkscrew, with a fantastic layout thanks to the fake rock work inside Adventuredome.

Roller Coaster at New York, New York is worth riding to say that you had ridden it... and that is it.

Honestly though, I'd recommend skipping the rides and putting your budget towards a Cirque du Soleil show. If anything, all the rides are gimmicky, and are very mediocre compared to regular amusement thrill rides.

They still scratch the itch at least.

Cab fare is pretty decent, so you COULD fork money out to go to Primm, but it isnt worth it as Desperado sucks.

If you plan on staying anywhere on/near the strip, just walk. If you want to nab Adventuredome then take the monorail to Sahara and just cross the street. Just dont go there after nightfall

Stratosphere is the place for high "thrill" flats mainly cause of the height factor when looking down. Roller Coaster at NYNY is meh, but I would rank it as current top meh of the meh that resides there currently.

I still suggest Adventuredome for the fact that you have a near B&M smooth Arrow as well as some construction going on as well.

Ive no idea when you mean soon, but if it is after memorial day then hit up one of the water parks (Wet'n'Wild is the one scheduled to open then) and make all the kids at he nearby school (waterpark is the schools new backyard basidally) hate you!

I am going in August. Will Akita be open?

If not, I'll go to New York, New York to start hating TOGO.

Akita is still on hold.

The togo isnt as bad as what most people make it out to be. Just get a full train lol.

I really loved Speed, its a shame its in pieces at the moment. Its clearly the best coaster there.

Only thing I have to add is be wary of riding front row in the desert heat. It was about 50 degrees celsius when I went and front row on Manhattan express was like having a hairdryer in your face for 2 mins. Not pleasant to breath on an already painful coaster!

Just looked up some prices:

Canyon Blaster- $8
Roller Coaster- $14

I didn't know Adventuredome was pay-per-ride. In that case, I will probably go there. Roller Coaster's price is outrageous! That is more than the Cyclone @ Coney Island! I might ride to ride it though. If I'm in the area, I'll hop in and let it jump to the bottom of my list.

If you are planning to walk the strip (and honestly, why wouldn't you?), you will pass by New York, New York; Circus Circus, and the Stratosphere.

^That.

Speed is gone and that was the only redeemable coaster. Rides.. Stratosphere is it. Everything else is ****.

^ as stupid as this will sound. Is it that bad if you are deathly afraid of heights.

Also, Snoo, what's your opinion on Canyon Blaster and Roller Coaster?
