My closest big park (or at least the one I go to the most) is Great Adventure. Most of their coasters are near the paths. El Toro is along a main path. Batman is surrounded by paths. Kingda Ka is by the parking lot, which is something like a path.

Nitro goes into the hills, away from most of the park. I've always liked that.

What other coasters have great settings? It's fine if you like a setting near the paths (e.g. Fury diving under the entrance gate), but I don't mean terrain coasters where the layout is so depending on the setting (e.g. The Beast, Kennywood).

I'm going to state the obvious with Ocean Park here, especially the mine train:

Hair Raiser has a great setting too, right on the edge of the cliff:

Everything at Holiday World is pretty neat. Raven goes around the lake, Legend goes between support structures of Splashin' Safari, and Voyage and Thunderbird both go through the woods.

A quite different opinion, but I really like the placement of V2 at SFGAm. Both of the spikes are above water, and you get a really nice view of Goliath on the twist spike if you're in the right seat.

Although I've never visited Texas I've always liked six flags fiesta Texas' interaction with the cliff, I think it works really well with Superman and especially well with Iron Rattler.

It also works pretty well with Magnus Collossus at Tera Mitica

I'll go with the obvious and my favorite - Montaña Suiza at Parque de Atracciones Monte Igueldo in San Sebastián, Spain:

I've always admired The Ultimate's countryside setting, and like how it ventures quite far away from the park.

The Big One overlooking the sea also deserves a mention:

I'm quite a fab of the view from Muntanya Russa at Tibidabo in Barcelona, it's up on Mount Tibidabo and it gives excellent views over Barcelona. No photos on rcdb show what I mean so have this one I stole

Obviously the coasters in the foothills of Fuji are nice too...because massive volcano <3

I didn't get the cred, but the view from Tibidabo mountain is **** stunning at night. Wasn't going to pay 30 euro for one cred when it was freezing.

Downtown HighFlyer like at Tivoli Gardens or Vienna Prater at night.

Colossus' inline twists partially going over water back in its early years was pretty neat I thought...

Does anyone have any pictures of Bandit at Yomiuriland? There were some incredible views on that thing!

I think the Colossus' setting is underrated. I love its interaction with the pathways, bridges and greenery.

The founding concept of Gatekeeper at Cedar Point was a roller coaster that would totally rejuvenate the front half of the park. I would say an easy mission accomplished!

I've always been a fan of Diamondback's placement at Kings Island as well. The park is designed as a half circle - by placing Diamondback in the middle of the park, it makes the large 200 ft. drop a visual staple that ties the Kings Island skyline together nicely.

But my all time favorite roller coaster setting, and roller coaster overall, is Ravine Flyer II, which harkens to the heritage of the original Ravine Flyer by traversing the nearby Peninsula Dr. twice via bridge.

^Such a CP fanboy. :P
There's absolutely nothing "awesome" about Gatekeeper's setting IMO, but I do agree with Ravine Flyer. The view from the top of the lift hill is phenomenal.

Gotta rep that Cedar Fair pride!

Another park that I've always enjoyed for good roller coaster placement is SFMM. A park full of iconic roller coasters both old and new: Revolution, Colossus (now Twisted Colossus), Goliath, X2, Tatsu, etc. Each roller coaster is situated well with the park layout, and really shows off the sheer magnitude of each ride.

To each his own, but yeah, parking lot coasters don't do it for me as far as settings are concerned.

I think theirs a difference between a good skyline, like the amazing skylines and Cedar Point and Magic Mountain and a good setting, like Alton Towers, Holiday World, Etc.
I gonna say that Furious Baco has a lovely setting over the lake but the rest of the ride is just dirt and a concrete tunnel, Nemesis is fantastic for is amazing trench setting, but I think Boulder Dash and Hair Raiser win for we, the deep wooded setting of Balder Dash is amazing and Hair Raiser has a view like no other!

I like where this has gone. I hadn't considered spectacular views when I mentioned Nitro. I like that one because it's secluded, unlike most of their other big coasters. There are some great photos, though. Ocean Park is really spectacular.

Regarding GateKeeper, I don't think much of it's location for the ride experience, but it's must be a cool site when you're walking in the park. I used the back entrance my Magnum when I've been there, which is also impressive, but seeing weird trains that kind of look like they have wings must be cool.

Magnum has some nice views of Lake Eerie, too. Also at Cedar Point, I like how the supports of MF's lift hill look like they go into the lake, at least while you're riding.

I had never thought of Diamondback's location. It is excellent, though. Yeah, it's kind of in the middle of everything, but it also managed to feel a bit secluded.
