Hi, I just got back from a trip to Alton Towers here in the U.K. fantastic weather! I always feel I should note this seeing as weather is a big deal in England. I’m not great at trip reports so I’ll do my best. I’m also new at learning proper lingo/terminology so please don’t crucify me if I say something that isn’t completely correct.
First trip in about 12 years. I did an overnight trip as I wasn’t sure how crowded it would be. There were a lot of school trips but in general found it to not be that horrendously busy.
Rita: closed for essential maintenance
Thirteen: rode this first. Still a great ride, I remember going on it about 13 years ago when it was the first coaster to have a free fall within the ride. Having riden Hagrid motorbike at UO (too many times to count) didn’t find Thirteen to be as amazing as when I first experienced it! But still a fun ride.
The Smiler: first time riding this and loved it! Good ling ride, pretty smooth. Liked the music in the queue very creepy. Single rider queue was very quick, rode 6 times in 2 days and longest I waited was 30 minutes.
Wicker man: I absolutely love wooden coasters so I was very excited to ride this one! Longer wait time of 60 minutes during midday. Felt like we were going sooooo fast! A bit jerky but it’s a wooden coaster.
Galactica: single rider queue very quick again. I don’t like this ride! It’s very uncomfortable. I couldn’t see anything that was happening! Not a fan so only rode it once.
Nemesis: unfortunately closed repeatedly throughout the day so never got on it. Previously have ridden it though and enjoyed it.
Spinball Whizzer: single rider literally just kept looping, no wait in single rider. Love this wild mouse style coaster! Very rough but think it’s really good fun.
The curse at Alton manor: what the hell! I thought this would be a kiddy knock off of haunted mansion but it was so much freakier! Pleasant surprise.
Oblivion: single rider very quick. Longest I waited was 30 minutes highest crowds part of day. Love the back row the best! Still great fun. Short but gets your stomach going!
Runaway mine train: another pleasant surprise. I enjoyed this, felt very fast and twist and turns.
Overall enjoyable trip. Can’t complain too much except the food is very overpriced and not good. It’s standard burgers and fries junk food. I admit I’m a bit spoiled as my usual park is universal where the food has improved year on year. Staying at the splash landing hotel at Alton towers you had limited options for meals in the evening. I ate at the buffet and was so expensive and unhygienic.!
So only complaint with Alton towers is food and pretty out dated rooms at the hotel.
