Alton Towers 31/8-1/9

Just a quick report so I can talk about my opinions on Air and Oblivion, the last two coasters in the park that I hadn't rode.

Air
I really enjoyed this. It exceeded my expectations and I found it to be very entertaining. The whole layout is smooth and fun. It's not a long ride but its long enough to satisfy. The highlights of the ride were the straight drop where the ORP is taken, the dive through the tunnel and the last couple of turns.

Ok so this is my new favorite and I simply enjoyed it more than Nemesis. The drop feels soooo good. It's great in both rows but I noticed that you can feel the drop a little more on row 2. Because I haven't rode any B&M hypers or Intamin mega coasters yet, it was by far the best drop I've ever experienced. I think its brilliant that you can't see where it ends. Some people call it a glorified drop tower and criticize its length but I love how straight to the point it is. It's not like The Big One where after the great drop you have to endure 2 and a half minutes of crap. It was always a walk on so I ended up riding it a total of 15 times (6 times yesterday and 9 today) making it one of my most ridden coasters. I found it to be an addictive ride which always gave me a high. It's worth mentioning that the pull out is very forceful.

The Smiler

During the ERT I had two very fun rides with just a 10 minute wait. They were both on the back row and it was better than last time I visited. I used to think that it wasn't particularly intense but this time it was consistently forceful and the airtime hills were great. It was a bit juddery at points but nothing ridiculous. Out of the AT coasters, it ties in 3rd place with Air for me.

Nemesis

When I came in Easter, I thought it was super forceful but not so much today. I had one ride in row 5 that was borderline meh to be honest. The helix was still a pleasure to ride but it wasn't as extreme and the loop was really lacking force. HOWEVER, it redeemed itself later when I treated myself to the front row for the first time. It was awesome. It was actually a bit rough but it's my go to row from now on. The layout sort of takes you on an adventure and it was great to experience it at the front with nothing in my way.

On the way out of the park I met Shawn Sanbrooke at the turnstiles. For those who don't know, he has a YouTube channel called Theme park worldwide where he does some great v logs.

Question: How do B&M hyper coaster drops compare with dive machine drops? Comment below

Hyper drops aren't really anything like it to be honest. They're a more sustained float.

I adore the drop on Oblivion and I do kind of see it as a drop tower with benefits really, but yeah, for the few seconds it's pushing, it's pushing my buttons.

Finally somebody who agree's with me that Oblivion is the best coaster there! Glad you liked it :) And see what I mean about Nemesis really lacking force all of a sudden? Sounds like all of your rides on Nemesis were similar to mine! Ha come to the dark side, agree that Nemesis is severely overrated!

Nice report, Oblivion is one of those rides where I forgot how good it was until I rode it again a couple of years back, it really packs a punch. Nemesis is still a classic in my eyes. You hit the nail on the head with Air, it is such a smooth ride. =D>

Whilst only a few seconds long, those few seconds are more fun and exciting than any part of Nemesis. It's amazing that the drop is just 20ft shorter than Sheikra's. It's so re rideable- 1 ride is simply not enough. It's a ride that would be fun to do an endurance marathon on. Also I like the station music and how the wait at the top is random- sometimes it's half a second and sometimes it's around 3 seconds.

The layout itself is an absolute masterpiece and will always be a classic. Tight turns and terrain interaction is what B&M inverts are made for. However the ride experience is starting to show its age. It's currently in the happy medium between Infusion rough and glass smooth. It's 2nd best in the park for me although I found Air to be more fun. Tbh, Pyrenees, Katun, Black Mamba, Afterburn and Montu do look like better inverts.

Glad you liked the report, I actually found Air more entertaining than Nemesis but Nemesis is the better ride overall. If Nemesis ever goes, it would be really depressing- I hope they never lose it. Oblivion is fantastic on either row but I think it packs even more punch at the back.
