A Pure Vomit Machine

We had something almost identical at the local town park in Widnes - we caleld it "Sputnik"

Similar size, only it was four seats on a "ring" around the central wheel. The council screwed up fitting it, and it was on the piss. You got those ****ty g's you get on the Drunken Barrels at Drayton (that kind of harsh, in out G's) only much tighter, much harshers and much spewier!

I went and got drunk at that park once while I was at college, and my mates trapped me and a mate on it and span it for ages... I've never felt so ill in my life...

Needs more crappy scooter motorbikes.

Although I wouldn't mind one without the crappy scooter motorbike.

But you have to admit. Best playground thing has to be the tire swings that are attached by 4 chains and spin around those are amazing if you get 4 people in one and 2 people making it spin.

Brave, brave children....

What??? They've never had it so good!

We used to have these:

Placed on gravelled concrete. You used to use them as a climbing frame as they span round. You could hook your legs over the edges and dangle out as the forces pulled you head first from the middle. Then it would slow and you'd drop and rip your scalp open... Or maybe slip and break a limb on the specially hardened floor.

Even better, we had these:

The wooden roundabout was tame, but when left to rot, kids would fall through the top seats and get trapped under the moving ride and lose limbs or heads - quite a few deaths on those.

I can't find a picture of a Witches Hat. I onyl really vaguely remember them - banned before I was five.

It was a cone of steel climbimg frame, on a central spindle. The ride would spin round AND in and out. You could ride it. You could climb on it. You could be one of dozens of kids crushed to death against the cnetral spindle.

Kids these days, REALLY don't know when it's good. I miss the screams at the park, and the ambulance turning up for the friend you threw off the slide onto the concrete. It was live or die back then, not namby pamby like today

This?

still nothing beats the Tyre swing ride I described but can't find the name of or a picture. During my mock exams there were many times where we got mild concussions from hitting the big wooden pole and nearly falling off.

THIS IS LIKE ONE OF THE ONES WE HAVE!!

only difference is the one near me is wooden and has the Tyre attached. It's been missing for a fair few years now.

the other one we have needs a picture cause I can't explain it.

Haha Phil, after telling my mum about those rides, she remembers them like they were yesterday. XD

The witches hat was basically a circle with a wooden seat, bars came up into a cone shape that you could hold on to and there was a central bar in the middle of the circle to support the ride.
Once everybody got on, everybody rocked back and forth to start it spinning and the in-and-out movement around the central bar.
You pretty much had to hold on for dear life, as if you slipped into the middle, you got crushed between the seats and the central bar There was space underneath, but if you fell off backwards you would not have time to get low, because it would throw you off with force.
Also, as there was pretty much no way to stop it, the only way to get off was to jump from the seat onto the concrete below. XD

Also in your second photo, in the back right you can see the bench with handles on. That's a very small version in the photo, but with larger versions about 10-20 people got on, and started swinging from side to side. You could easily get more-than-vertical with enough people, and you only had the tiny handle to hold on to to stop yourself falling off onto the concrete below.

Sounds like great fun... XD

Edit: Found a photo of the Witch's Hat thing:

That's the badger! Well done Kim!

Erm, being smashed to death easily beats a tyre swing, sorry Kim! :P

That tyre swing is the same kind of pants I've ridden before, and the minors go on nowadays. They're okay, but seriously nothing compared to either the superb speed you could get off the old rides - plus the additional chance of death or a trip to the hospital :)

Tyre swings are a very poor grand child...

And furie.

you can get the same thing with the tyre swing.

only difference is if you survive the first hit from it you just end up getting hit by it again as it swings back.

Either that or getting smashed onto the support beam only to fall off and hit your head... then get hit again from it swinging back.

Playgrounds for the win.

STOP EDITINGF!?ASOFK N"!

Damn, those things look like fun.

The only thing's I've had around are this:

Or something like it. (if it's the same this one looks really gay)
In the middle there are suppost to be four heavy duty springs that "lift" the whole structure off the ground. So you can get 4 people and have a good ol' time "swinging" around. You'd be surprised you can get pulled many different ways.

I've also been on one of those "roundabouts".

I can only think of one place around here that has one of those. God I love them.

Also, concerning the first post, we had a spinning apple ride at the fairgrounds that did that.

Hmm, I agree with Kim. Can't beat the tire swing with 2-3 ppl spinning you as fast as they can, and then getting thrown off when your friend kicks you in the balls...

This is how to spin a rounabout

Everyones seen it and its incredibly stupid I know.

That red thing looks cool though because you can rest your head. I hate it when your spinning so fast you cant move your head if you know what I mean

Still waltzers ftw!

I think everybody in the world should own one of these Red-pod rides found in Australia. It will empty you of your hangover Wink
Haha, there was one of those in a park near where I used to live when I was younger. Some McDonald's would have one in the playland too, but it was in the shape of a giant cheeseburger. The topic title is pretty apt in describing it

Though can't you pretty much do the same thing in a teacups ride?

THIS is what I call a pure vomit machine...

Near my parents house there is a play park and I remember so many of the death trap contraptions of the early 90's.

We had a climbing mountain which was made up of different logs in height. You could easily fall off and break limps, necks, and probably die or something. It was so deadly, It was gone a few years later and replaced with lots of other death traps.
