A day in the life of Mark - Trip to Liverpool.

Lofty

CF Legend
Hey all,

Just thought I'd post this up. Yesterday (25/03/11), I decided to go and have a visit to Liverpool City Centre. Don't ask me why. It's only like 20 minutes on the train so I thought I may as well go and kill some time. The weather was lovely and warm near enough all day, even though it did get COLD on the ferry. Anyhow, here's a report of the day:

I started at home, had to go to work for my wages, so yeah, this is the view from work:

I then got the bus to St Helens and got took the train to Liverpool. Here's out station <3 :

Arriving at Liverpool Lime Street: I decided to walk the quick way through to Albert Docks, through Liverpool 1:

The infamous sexy staircase of Liverpool 1:

The new building's at Mann Island in the docks area:

The Liver Buildings:

The Liver Bird. One faces the city and one faces away towards the sea. Well, meant to be, when in fact it faces The Wirral </3

One of Liverpool's strange buildings. PLUS, a hidden Super Lamb Banana (I am not making that up, they are genuinely called that).

I then boarded a ferry named Snowdrop and took a "Ferry across the Mersey" as the **** song goes..
dsc0688.jpg

The new Metro District of Liverpool. Soon this whole area will be dwarfed by some sky scrapers, buildings and entertainment zones as Liverpool Waters becomes closer to being a reality <3

The city of Liverpool as seen from the Mersey.

I was paranoid all day that a Seagull had shat all down my back, they were EVERYWHERE around Liverpool. Them, plus the Ghetto Scally Pigeons that don't move away from you </3

I can't help but think that most of the population of Cf want to go to a place named, "Man-n Island" ;)

Radio City Tower is 4ft smaller then Kinda Ka!

When you leave Lime Street. Follow these signs. Ignore the rest, these are the ones you want to go to. Especially for the International Slavery Museum <3:

So yeah. That was my day. One last thing. Liverpool <3

I used to love Liverpool, such a fantastic little city.

I don't recognise the place any more though, it changed so much in such a relatively short space of time. Being an old fart, I don't think for the better, but the world is a very different place to what it was in the 80's

Yeah, it has changed, and is still "on the change" so to speak. As I said in that post above, they're possibly making a new area called "Liverpool Waters", which is blatantly there to battle Salford's new "Media City" development.

If you go down The Cavern Walk and what not, it hasn't changed much there, it's still the same as it was for years. Planning and such around that area is a nightmare apparently. It's one of the biggest tourist areas too, especially in the actual Cavern Club, anybody who doesn't know why, needs to be shot.

But yeah, it's being done up totally as a whole city, it's reputation proceeds it, and they want to show how it's not like what people think. Still, because I've grown up with going to the city every other week or whatever, it's always going to have a soft spot in my heart. Not like that horrible place, "Manchester" - just kidding. I also love Manc. ;)

Monsters Inc building. <3 :P

I still need a proper walk round Liverpool. Only been to the Beatles Museum and the airport. And the station where you picked us up from. Shame I couldn't make that day last year. :(

And don't lie. Your daily life for the past couple of days has been...

Day 1:
Got up
Walked the dog with t-shirt on backwards
Ranted about people wearing shorts in this weather
Went to bed at 9pm.

Day 2:
Got up
Put on shorts despite of what you said yesterday
Went to bed at 9pm :P

Ha. You're going to laugh at this, but yesterday, I did go to bed REALLY early lmao.

I didn't actually get out of the house before I realised about the T-Shirt. So shut up.

Plus, I only wore shorts in the house today, so HA. I was more ranting about the fact people were wearing shorts that had been tagged by police. The scally's </3

I love Liverpool. It's got such an unfortunate reputation considering how nice it actually is. I did the same as you and went for a random wander a few months back. It only takes about an hour to get there from here and costs **** all. I should probably get around to writing up something in here to be honest.

I have tickets to see that show at the playhouse in a few weeks.

The thing is, people have such a negative opinion about the place, without actually going, it's funny, it's reputation (from years ago I may add), really proceeds it.

When did you go Dave? Was it a recent trip? :)

I went back in 2008 to see a friend who went to John Moore University there. Went out in Liverpool (funniest night out, just for the accents), and visited the touristy Beatles crap (was not interested too much), plus went to the Anglican cathedral which was amazing.

Wikipedia quote says:

"It is 138 metres (452 ft) tall".

Liverpool is a nice city, but it gets a really bad rep thanks to the Barton family and the other people who live up to the stereotypes.

Gavin, I live around 20 minutes from the city. If you're ever going again, let me know, It'd be good to meet you. I want to go seeing that show too <3
