"Today Merlin released details of its new annual passes released for the 2010 season. This year we see two types of Annual Passes, a Standard Annual Pass (Priced at £150) and a Premium Annual Pass (Priced at £200).
The Premium Annual Pass offers unlimited and unrestricted access to all attractions, whilst the standard Annual Pass will not gain entry to The London Eye, Madame Tussauds, London Dungeons & the London Aquarium during August & selected dates, plus access to Thorpe Park during Fright Nights will be restricted and will include a £5 entry fee.

This year we see new benefits including unlimited coke capsule refills for only £10 for the entire season at selected attractions & 50% off entry to the International Merlin Attractions."

Pretty rubbish eh, although the £10 coke capsules and 50% entry should make up for this, also we wont have to pay booking fee for fright nights with a premium pass!

Annoying, now we see what the half-price drive was about, still pleased with the value offered though. Merlin are a company trying to make as bigger profit as possible, these are wise business moves.

I don't think it should affect my use of the pass too much. If you look at it as £50 to go to the Fright Nights, the premium doesn't seem good value.

Unlimited coke for a year for £10. Hell Yeah!
Although I don't like them doing two passes this year. Is the only difference getting into the other attractions during august and selected dates?

Better off just paying the one off charge of 5 pounds for fright night.

the 150 is not to bad, but 200 just to use it in August is a bit much, this will be the one families will have to go for though if they wish to go during school holidays. I wonder if they will also limit entrence to Alton or is that park big enough to cope.

10 pound for coke all year is a good offer though seeing how much they charge normally.

In order to make any pass worth while I would have to go to at leat 5 Merlin attractions and I wont be so its not worth it for me, but for people that go a lot it's worth it.

The only attractions affected majorly by selective use are the London ones, not the theme parks... The only restrictions on them seem to be Thorpe's Fright Nights...

Hence... I'm not excessively affected by this... Unless Alton and Chessie start getting dates thrown on, in which case I will be annoyed...

I orderd the pass for £75 at the weekend before they made this announcement. So which do I get, a standard pass or a premium?

From the official site:

Standard pass exclusions include: No entry during the month of August at London Eye, Madame Tussauds London, London Dungeon and SEA LIFE London Aquarium. No entry during Fright Nights at THORPE PARK. No entry on 14th February at the London Eye. No entry on 30th and 31st October at the London Eye and The London Dungeon.

Which to me says that the standard pass will not get you into Thorpe on Fright Nights at all! I'll be pretty pissed if now I can't get into Thorpe for Ghosterforce on the AP (I don't mind paying the extra £5) since it didn't state that on the T+C's when I brought the pass.

Also, I can't see anywhere that states that you still get 20% off food and merchandise with the standard pass. You get it with the premium, but no mention with the standard. :(

It does sound like they were just getting rid of the old passes and thats why they were going cheap.

I should imagine that Thorpe would do the 5 pound thing again it would be wrong to expect people to pay full price if that have a pass.

I think the 200 one should also include queue jump, other parks that do 2 types include perks like that.

This is why it seems less and less likely we get the passes every year. The prices go up and they go and make it complicated with events and certain dates.
Does anyone know about a renewal price? With these new passes they'll probably say you'll have to buy them full price again or something.
It's not fair on my dad you has to buy 4 each year for us all. That's £800 for the Platinum passes for a year and £600 for the normal one but then not being allowed to go to most the places during the summer which is just stupid.

^ They've updated the website since I orderd it.

I had the options of getting a "Merlin Annual Pass" or a "Thorpe Park Annual Pass" (since i'll be picking it up from Thorpe.) There was no mention at all of any standard or premium passes, nor of entry being restricted during Fright Nights (Thats all I care about really.)

I'll give them a call tomorrow when i'm at home to sort it out, and shout at them if they won't let me in for Fright Nights. :P

There's no way in hell I'd pay £200 for something that only grants a few measly extras. Like Marc said, the Premium pass should allow queue jumping, MAYBE then it would sound reasonably worth it.

Yep and no doubt you will get the "subject to change in conditions" crap.

I fully agree with you btw.

I think its wrong that people can not pay a bit more to upgrade to the better pass as well.

I'll wait to see what I can get with Tesco vouchers.

This massive price hike is crap, but unexpected at all. Blah.

About this queue jumping, having seen what happens when they decide to allow AP's go up the Express queue in the middle of Summer at Chessie it makes the NORMAL queue SHORTER than the express...

Hence, it's not the best idea ever...

I'm sure they'll have the whole £5 a pop for Thorpe at FN for anyone with older passes...

The restrictions arent too bad - Through august, you can't go to the Eye, Dungeons, Tussauds... Hardly a loss in my eyes and the 5 quid fee for Fright Night is the same.

Meh, it's not put me off renewing mine.

Though I do still need to find an extra £100 as I don't have enough Tesco clubcard vouchers :(

The premium idea is ridiculous. Only idiots with a bit of money to spare would do that...;)

Depending on how much cheaper i can get the premium, i fear i may have to get a premium, pure fact being August will be when i spend most of my time in london before dickhead goes to ABU DAHBI for his next year at uni. So i fear i'll be buying a premium D=

This completely justifies my lack of Merlin Park visits. They can go **** themselves as far as i'm concerned with prices like those..

Well when I have seen it in use in the USA there is no problem, it can work if done properly and personally I think its a nice perk. There was no problem at IoA, Universal, SFMM, Universal Hollywood etc. But whatever.

Present your annual pass at a Fast Track booth, get given a time slot, voila.
