Never fun to hear about a place with a classic wooden coaster shutting down, even if it's a world away from me.
Btw, RCDB is already listing all of Oakwood's coasters as "removed", which seems a touch premature. Wouldn't the correct classification at the moment be "SBNO"?
Of course it could be moved, but when was the last time a major full-size woodie on the scale of Gold Striker carefully disassembled and rebuilt at a new home?
It's been so long now I can't even remember.
Was it the Comet from Crystal Beach to SFGE way back in '94? (And even then, Comet is...
Man, it's been awhile since we've seen a major US theme park just up and close forever, hasn't it?
Last ones I can remember are SFNO, Astroworld and Geauga Lake, and those three closings were all roughly 20 years ago now.
Also, if the past is anything to go by, none of the 5 wooden coasters...
The US was the only player back in the early days of the inversion record, but then quit the game prematurely at its apex.
Modern era inversion record:
1/2: Corkscrew, KBF -1975
3: Corkscrew, CP - 1976
4: Carolina Cyclone, Carowinds - 1980
5. Viper, Darien Lake - 1982
6. Vortex, KI -1987

Looks great! Lots of midway interplay, no MCBR, one of the most "complete" looking dive coaster layouts.
I hadn't appreciated just how close the immelmann would get to Demon's lift. That's fun! They really squeezed a fair bit of ride into that space, kudos to the design team!
No pics cuz I was driving, but I went past the park on the Tri-state this afternoon heading back to to the city from my sister's house and the lift hill appears to be about halfway up now.
^ the word "casino" in the thread titie is 1,000% the reason why this thread attracts bots.
It's one of those "moths to a flame" words
But now that the thread has been bumped again, as the years continue to slip by, the odds for a miracle here regarding Desperado only seem ever grimmer. Are...
We're in 100% agreement on that!
I was just pointing out that the ride's omission from an animation video of the park's newest coaster was specifically the original source of this "rumor".
Well, that, and the fact that Zamperla Volares are one of the most universally unpopular coaster types...
Great point.
Many enthusiasts seem to actively hate a large % of coasters.
But I'm like you, the number of coasters I actively dislike is quite small.
Take the recent closure announcement of Anaconda at KD. It's by no means a great coaster, but it's still a fun ride IMO, and yeah, I'm a...
Man, 2024 has been quite the doozy for closure announcements of significant coasters in the US.
Scorpion - BGT (Schwarzkopf silver arrow)
Kingda Ka - SFGAdv (world's tallest coaster)
Green Lantern - SFGAadv (2nd largest B&M stand-up)
La Vibora - SFOT (last of the Intamin bobsleds)
Nighthawk -...
Sad, but not surprising at all. With post-merger SF/CF on the cost-reduction warpath, these old arrow multi-loopers are an easy target.
13 custom Arrow loopers are now left globally (8 of those at SF/CF parks). I wonder how many will be left at the close of this decade?
