Australia Report: Part Two - DreamWorld

I enjoyed the pictures of Brisbane. Despite spending 5 days in the area last year, we never got around to visiting the actual city 🤷‍♂️ I also enjoyed Dreamworld the most on my trip. Best ops and friendliest staff in the area.

Strongest and weakest parks for operations/throughputs

Definitely agree about the Aussie parks, Movie World especially. Just infuriating! Surprised nobody has mentioned Parque Warner Madrid yet. Their ops and ride availability were disgraceful when I visited. I've visited PortAventura 3 times and even when it was super busy last time I went, I...

Mandoria | Aquila | Vekoma Family Launch Coaster | 2025

@uwurawrus Any idea how busy this place gets in the summer? Do you think I could get all the creds in a couple of hours on a Saturday in June? I'm pondering adding this park to my little Polish trip based on the reviews of this new coaster!

    Your 2024 in Review

My season is as good as over, though I should get one more new cred at a winter funfair if the weather plays ball. Here are my stats with a few extra ones added that I track every year. Coaster count at start of 2024: 407 Coaster count at end of 2024: 488 Coaster count increase: 81 Number of...

    Top 10(ish): 2025 Edition - page 129

My season is effectively over and I got an amazing 81 new creds, and a few made it into the list. My overall top ten is still all Steel coasters so I'll do a separate one for the woodies. New creds from this year in bold. Top 10 Steel Vengeance Taron (I actually count this as joint first with...

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

That wasn't an option when I was there, possibly because they were sold out. I would have paid that to get a quick ride done tbh. Just been reading your trip report, funnily enough. You had better luck than me! :D

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

Here we go then, Thursday 10th October - the final day of our holiday. Our flight home wasn’t until 1am the following morning so we had a full day at our disposal. It was raining quite heavily when we left Brisbane in the morning to head down to the Gold Coast for the final time. The forecast...

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

The following day Anna was going to spend the day with her friend, so that left me free to do some solo park trips. It had rained heavily overnight and the forecast for the day wasn’t too promising either. I was hoping this would mean the parks would be quieter, but I wasn’t taking any chances...

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

They don't have metal detectors, but even items secured in pockets aren't allowed. Would they spot everything? Probably not, but they did look people over as they wre getting on rides so it wasn't worth the risk of keeping anything, given how slow the ops were.

Well things have change a little since then. The lockers are free now, and there's no gift shop anymore, just a big empty space 😆

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

I'm actually OK without them, but my wife can't really see anything and also can't wear contacts so she really struggled. As for the spite drama, it will keep people coming back until I finish the report 😂

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

We flew from Auckland to Brisbane on Sunday 6th October, arriving late afternoon. After picking up our hire car we checked into our AirBnB, which at 5 nights would be the longest time we stayed in any accommodation on the whole trip 😆 First order of business was meeting Anna’s friend that she...

PortAventura | Ferrari Land | New Area

I admire your optimism Matt, but you are way off here. The park looks lovely but the ride offering is garbage, with the only worthwhile attraction being Red Force. As you say, opening the park at 5pm means everyone piles in there to ride RF so if you're not there when the gates open, it's a 90...

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

The following day we spent the morning in Auckland and did the WETA Workshop Unleashed tour. For the unaware, WETA is the special effects company that worked on the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies and tons of other stuff. I won’t bog this post down with a ton of pictures but if you’re into movie...

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

After a couple of brilliant days in the Sydney sunshine, we took our next flight to New Zealand’s South Island. You may be wondering where Brisbane/Gold Coast comes into this trip and to that I will simply say – later 😉 The South Island has no theme parks or permanent rollercoasters, so...

Spite Down Under – Australia and New Zealand 2024

My wife and I took a three week trip to Australia and New Zealand in September and October this year. This was our third time in that part of the world and was intended to be a kind of “mop up” of the areas in NZ that we hadn’t visited before, along with spending some time in Sydney and...

Are you a doer or a relaxer on holiday?

I just came back from a 3 week trip to Australia and New Zealand where we drove over 2200 miles in 4 different rental cars and saw both the most southerly point of the South Island and the most northerly point of the North Island, as well as visiting 5 theme parks and countless other activities...

Where is your local park and how often do you visit?

Alton Towers, which is under 25 mins away on a good day. It has been my home park and that sort of distance away for almost my entire life. My first visit was in 1981 :D Nowadays I am kind of bored with it having visited many better parks elsewhere in the world, but will typically visit once or...

Drayton Manor | Gold Rush | Intamin Family Coaster | 2024

I was going to write my own thoughts having ridden both Gold Rush and The Wave on Saturday, but you've pretty much said everything I was going to here :D I may as well anyway though... Got 2 rides on Gold Rush, luckily getting one of each cycle and it's a decent family coaster and a great...
