^ I agree with 10Watt. When I last went to Pleasurewood (which was ages ago) the log flume was probably the second most popular ride in the park (after cannon ball). It's unbelievable how popular log flumes are, and the GP don't know that this is just a crappy generic design.
So really, this...
To tell you the truth, I don't think it will matter too much if the launch isn't that great, cause the track that follows is just so awesome. This ride is about speed around tight and interesting inversions, not just a launch.
I was thinking the whole launch thing was getting a bit overdone...
SnooSnoo, I'm not quite sure what your point is. Yes Mantis does sound like a real B&M but that's not what Nemesis now sounds like. Nemesis new sound is not "win".
I don't understand why anyone thinks it sounds good now? It's not that nemesis used to be quiet, it used to sound like a "real...
^Lol
I think the ride's looking good, but not amazing. For some reason, from looking at pictures of this ride and the parks other rides, It doesn't seem to fit the park very well. The rest the park has a magical look, whereas this seems to have a more hi-tech futuristic theme.
^No it doesn't. It sounds way too loud. Dragon Khan sounds like a real B&M, with a beautiful low roar. Nemesis used to sound like a real B&M, now it sounds ropey.
I wouldn't pick any "song" at all, I'd pick a good piece of up-lifting film music. Maybe something by John Powell like one of the chase cues from the Bourne soundtracks. That would get the adrenaline pumping!
Just a personal thing, but I feel instrumental 'theme' type music creates a lot...
I don't get too much headbang from any coaster, I'm just under 6ft but I'm all legs so still sit quite low under the restraints. I'm a great believer of the stick your head forward technique, however this can give you a sore neck.
The main problem I have with colossus is cramp in my legs...
^ that would be nice, but I think we're more likely to see tall coasters launched rather than hyper coasters and giga coasters. Now there's the technology to make coasters go very fast and high without massive expensive lift hills, I think parks are going to be more favorable towards launches...
^Looking good.
The reason B&M clone rides isn't because they're unoriginal, it's because it's a lot cheaper to build a clone ride than a new custom design. Cloning a ride takes out months of expensive design work, and reduces the risk of problems with the new layout / concept.
Happy...
^yes I'm rather skeptical too, but then again, they take up such a tiny amount of space, so if there was some kind of thrill vs space graph, I think these would be pretty high up. However, do they really offer much more than a decent flat? They look impressive but could you get more bang for...
^yes...
I don't really think its lazy of the designers, it's more clever than anything. The GP get wowed by numbers so they want to make the new ride as fast and tall as possible but they still have a budget and a required space to fit the ride in. I'd rather see coasters like this than junk...
^yeah good point. In fact, arguing against myself, G-force at Drayton manor only had one small train with the same capacity when it first opened, and the queues weren't too bad actually. They then later added another train I believe.
Cute but seems to creep over the hills slightly. I'm too surprised about only one train cause hasn't it only got 12 seats! I know the ride is short but it's the loading / unloading which takes time. I reckon it might also be a financial choice why there's only one train as trains aren't cheap...
I think that's right, it seems to be quite a modern thing to fill coasters with sand.
And I'm surprised at how much coasters wheels cost, I've never really thought about it before really, but it makes sense that they aren't cheap, as they have to be capable of withstanding pretty crazy forces!
Yeah I noticed how loud it's become when i visited a couple of weeks ago. At first i thought i'd just forgotten how loud it was as this was my first trip to Alton for a couple of years. But then i could hear it at various points around the park which I definitely couldn't before. However, i...
This is a really tough one actually (I have only ridden Khan) But they have very similar layouts, with kraken seeming to have better trains and theming, but from looking at videos khan looks to have more wild pacing, and takes the last inversions ferociously. I spose i can't really comment cause...
The most ridiculous thing about this topic is the amount of people moaning about it! and the number of times that alton towers height limit thing has been answered over and over.... Can't you use you're imagination! Of course a dive machine twice the height will be great! And I'm sure it would...
