"Fantasmagorical Faff" - Alton Towers, 20th March 2022

Hahaha, I’ll chat to Chris Brown who I’m travelling with and message you on Messenger. But an hour south of Alton is tempting.

"Fantasmagorical Faff" - Alton Towers, 20th March 2022

^ Happy to meet at services along the M6 for an expensive Burger King?! Being a Sunday and 3 1/2 hour drive home, I’m keen to press on home after the park. But having dinner in Leicester on Saturday…?

"Fantasmagorical Faff" - Alton Towers, 20th March 2022

My first visit in years. Wonder if it feel fresh or has changed much. Very much looking forward to it!

    Clothing style

Plain, functional and comfortable are the three things I look for. I like to be presentable. I will never wear trackie bottoms out of the house, not even to pop to my local Tesco Express to buy their cheapest bottle of wine with the highest ABV and a packet of cheese balls.

What is your mentality towards riding kiddie coasters?

Over the past five of six years, I’ve gone from A to C. When my coaster count used to matter to me, I’d travel the end of the country to grab a Caterpillar +1. The more I I travelled or visited bigger parks and experienced quality creds, the less concerned I became about my count. Nowadays it’s...

    Blog start Advice?

CF uses WordPress which I find ok. Does everything I want it to and it’s easy enough to use. Would rather it be “write this, make this bit bigger, drop a photo here”, without inevitable foraging errors that these things have, but it’s not too fiddly.

Are you a "hands in the air" person or a "holding on tight" person when riding?

I’m a hands in lap person (“riding politely”), but I often stretch my arms up in anticipation of airtime hills/moments. Guess I feel that reaching upwards will make me more aerodynamic or something, or pull my gut in to get my arse an extra millimetre off the seat.

"Fantasmagorical Faff" - Alton Towers, 20th March 2022

Checked https://one.network/ (a website that shows all current and planned road works) and nothing for the B road. So the AT web page is outdated. And it still uses the term “thin” to describe the width of the carriageway. It’s not boding well, might end up going to guest services at this rate...

"Fantasmagorical Faff" - Alton Towers, 20th March 2022

Where & When As the thread title says, Alton Towers on Sunday 20th March Where to meet The park is open 10am until 5pm. Please meet at 10:30 at Oblivion. Hopefully this'll give you enough time to get in and arrive at the coaster. First time and unsure who you're looking for? It's pretty easy...

    CF Lives 2022 - What's Happening

Date move for Paultons for two reasons, 1) I'm going to a friend's wedding (feel like I've been shoved in as a replacement due to the comparatively short notice) and 2) a fair few "no can dos" posted above. So the new Paultons date is a week later, Saturday 21st May (this still avoids the Bank...

Ah cheers! Yes, should be the 14th then, the Saturday.

    CF Lives 2022 - What's Happening

Alton - Sunday, 20th March (opening weekend, avoids rush on opening day) Paultons - Saturday, 14th May (avoids BH weekends, new cred will be open and initial rush gone) Blackpool - Saturday, 10th September (after school holidays, illuminations on) GhosterForce (Thorpe/CWOA) - Sat/Sun 15th and...

    CF Lives 2022 - What's Happening

Yep, end of the month as I said in the opening post. Going through some last minute checks and I'll post them tomorrow. If it helps with planning your own trips, I can confirm there won't be any Lives in June, July and August due to other commitments I have.

    Worst Ride Sponsorships

Dragon’s Fury and Skips crisps. What the prawn flavoured melt-in-your-mouth, maize-based snacks had to do with it is still beyond me? Maybe a connection with the queue-skipping help yourself fastrax ticket machines in the early days? And Irn Bru at Blackpool. Like to think it had something to...

    CF Lives 2022 - What's Happening

Hi all, thought I'd let you know what our intentions are for CF Lives this coming season. Covid is still playing a role in the organisational side of Lives. The CF Team is mainly made up of Brits, so organising events outside the UK carries risk. Travel restrictions play the primary role which...

Thorpe Park | Hyperia | Mack Hyper Coaster | 2024

I agree with this, Merlin is held to a high standard. Most (not all!) of the other parks Serena mentioned are independently or family owned. Merlin on the other hand is one of the top global park operators, is floated on the UK stock exchange with oodles of cash, operates four of the (if not...

Thorpe Park | Hyperia | Mack Hyper Coaster | 2024

It was a shame to lose the Flume of Hearts, but I’m sure this is what she would’ve wanted in her place.

Thorpe Park | Hyperia | Mack Hyper Coaster | 2024

Agreed that maintenance is vital, but it’s going to be a firm favourite for both goons and casual riders. It’s punchy, thrilling, does loop-de-loops, got a water bit init, and looks imposing. The UK has had, imo, nothing but “that’s nice” type coasters since Swarm. In 10 years we can revisit...

Thorpe Park | Hyperia | Mack Hyper Coaster | 2024

Right, I’m sold and am already camping outside Thorpe for opening day. “Punchy” is how I’ll describe it. I’m going to have the biggest grin ever after my first ride. Finally something that actually looks like it’s built to properly thrill without an abundance of gimmickry. Its not my style to...
