Intimidator 305 - Kings Dominion Giga coaster

Could this be the world’s first lift hill achieved 100mph coaster? Indeed the rumoured height of 350ft would be a 12% increase on Millennium Force’s 310ft, and if that was reflected in top speed. A 12% increase on Millennium Force’s 93mph, would be 105mph.

A new Coaster Crew/KD fan site, construction update has been posted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFE1OEPQxpc And the photo gallery: http://www.kdfansite.com/gallery/thumbn ... =70&page=1 I guess a vertical lift has now been ruled out given the arrival of stairs.

    Alton Towers: 10 year plan

Got to be honest, I’m disappointed with this plan, although I can see why they chose it. It’s just a shame that Thorpe Park is now the only UK Park who plans to cater for thrill seekers. And frankly judging by the substandard Saw – The Ride, it’s not to the standard we’d all like. So in...

    Whats this effect called?

I don’t think the effect actually has a name, or at least I haven’t come across it. The earliest known example I’ve seen of this was in Wes Cravens “A Nightmare On Elm Street”. In which they used spandex for the effect, which seems to be the most common material used. Indeed some haunt shops...

    Alton Towers: 10 year plan

It was mentioned at the Nemesis X event in 2004, that the wooden coaster into the valley would be right for Alton Towers at some point. I guess we’ll find out whether it’s in the near future or not, today or tomorrow. I just hope they don’t spend all their money on hotels and family oriented...

Thirteen, Intamin ''psychoaster'' - Alton Towers 2010

Ok. So whilst browsing throw a lovely site made by a man called Robb Alvey. I stumbled across something that disproved my theory for SW6’s world’s first element. It turns out that an entirely backwards tilt track has been done before: http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastert ... atwister_1...

What Is It With MCBR's These Days?

MCBRs only spoil a coaster if they trim i.e. Pepsi Max Big One. Otherwise I can appreciate them for two reasons: 1) they decrease queue times, 2) they allow for longer ride times; more value for my money. Without them, many roller coasters would be half or even a third of their length i.e. The...

Roller Coaster TV Programs and Other Related Videos

Ok so Apocalypse isn’t a roller coaster. But I’m glad they tested it anyway. The adrenaline read outs were off the scale, which was about my estimation too when I first rode it. The simulators were also quite awesome; it’s given me ideas. The program should be available to watch again through...

Thirteen, Intamin ''psychoaster'' - Alton Towers 2010

The plans do not show box supports, they show I-beam supports. I-beam supports reduce noise without the need for sand dampening, thus reducing cost. Intamin have also used I-beam supporting extensively recently: http://www.rcdb.com/ig3950.htm?picture=5...

Thirteen, Intamin ''psychoaster'' - Alton Towers 2010

Judging by the plans, along with that long since removed leaked concept art, I suspect they’re going for the world’s first entirely backwards tilt track. Indeed the track exiting the station would flow very well from such an element. In which case, the rolling stock only need be a suitably sized...

Thirteen, Intamin ''psychoaster'' - Alton Towers 2010

This will not be a Premier. The plans do show bi-rail track, it has two rails, cross ties and cross struts. However the cross struts go the wrong way for a Premier, in any train direction they go from left (to the next cross tie)-to-right on the new Alton coaster. Whereas the Premier track cross...

The BBC iPlayer Link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... 6_04_2009/ The main article starts at around 1:36.30. Quite interesting really, they make Saw - The Ride sound worse than it really is. Brendan Walker (the ‘thrill engineer’ working for Merlin) adds his opinions...
