Whirligig Woods - Family Amusement Park and Treehouse Resort

An interesting news story that popped up on my Facebook page today coming out of North Carolina.

As the video goes, a world famous Theme Park Designer (Bob Baranick?) who is credited to have worked on many Disney Projects (they mention Land, World and Paris, and show a photo of Indiana Jones specifically), Busch Gardnes and more (Polar Ocean World in China) - has a vision to help out North Carolina and the future generations to come. Whirligig Woods, which would be located in Saxapahaw, NC, is the first of three Theme Parks being designed for the state of North Carolina.

Sitting on 21-acres of land, the park would feature rides (they show a Log Flume and a RCT style Mine Train wild mouse type coaster), family attractions (Ferris Wheel, Haunted House and Train), as well as a in-park resort that would be located in the Superstition Mountain area of the park (which would house the Log Flume and Coaster) - in which you would stay in a Treehouse rather than a Cabin or Hotel.

The other two theme parks mentioned are a small coastal style one, and one that would be inside a repurposed Textile Mill and themed to a Candyland of sorts.

While this seems a bit farfetched, the land has already been bought and clearing began for Whirligig Woods.

I think his first job is to change the project name to something you're able to pronounce easy... I understand why it's called that due to the theme, but come on, it's hardly gonna roll off of the tongue as a place to visit ;)

Anyone else think hes a bit deluded?
Yeah, he's very focused on making it happen - but, three parks is much different to trying to develop even one small site into a functioning and successful park (look at Hard Rock that had MILLIONS behind it).

Yeah, but Hard Rock went about it the wrong way. If he goes small I could see it working, maybe. It kinda makes me think of this Canadian park that turned into an actual park in 2015 and has been flying under the radar https://rcdb.com/12847.htm I'm sure the local population could easily support a park of that size. Obviously this guy want something slightly bigger but if he goes about it slow and steady there's no real reason for to fail. Hard Rock had different issues.... mostly, out pricing the locals, lack of advertising, and spending way too much money on intellectual properties.

Weird name. Not sure if this will work out considering the scope of what he wants to build.

My point still stands - parks are incredibly hard in this day and age to start-up from scratch, maintain and make successful. So to then come along and propose three parks and say they WILL be successful is slightly deluded.

Sounds interesting. I honestly doubt it'll actually come to light, but it's good to see that it's not just people with a bunch of money and access to the internet thinking of these things.

Indeed... I think that's why a lot of State Side enthusiasts, with the means to do so are planing on making a run to the new OWA park in Foley, Alabama. And while that seems to have the backing of a casino involved.... Since what happened with Hard Rock/Freestyle I think a lot of people are... Suspect.
That being said.... I'm hoping to make a run to OWA in June (and was fortunate enough to visit Freestyle)
