Top 10 steel coasters that aren't B&M or Intamin

I was looking through my list of coasters I've ridden and suddenly realized that 9 out of the top 10 were either B&M or Intamin. This might not come as a shock since the majority of the really big coasters are built by these companies. One can wonder though how it turned out that just two companies can dominate the business like this :?

That's why I'm glad that Mack with Blue Fire (the only none B&M/Intamin on my top 10 list) has had such a success. Other manufacturers in advancement are Vekoma (the new BG duel coasters in Singapore), S&S (with interesting new launchers in China) and Maurer Söhne (X-Cars in Rainbow Magicland and Universal Studios).

I think it would be interesting to see what your top 10 steel coaster lists would look like if you ignored B&M and Intamin! I've chosen to only use steel coasters since they're in great majority and since B&M does not produce wooden coasters.

I'll start off with my list:

1) Blue Fire (Mack)
2) Euro-Sat (Mack)
3) Winjas (Maurer Söhne)
4) Colorado Adventure (Vekoma)
5) Limit (Vekoma)
6) Saw (Gerstlauer)
7) Sonic Spinball (Maurer Söhne)
8) Schweizer Bobbahn (Mack)
9) Big Loop (Mack)
10) Euro-Mir (Mack)

I guess it kinda does show the quality those two builders maintain.. along with the catching up the rest have to do.

And Grizzly, as in KD's Grizzly, in the top 10 of anything? Get to more parks!

I missed the Steel part, my apologies :p I will be heading to Dollywood, SFNE and Dorney this year. Maybe Tennessee Tornado or Steel Force will impress me?

This should be interesting considering 7 out of my top 10 are B&M / Intamin and seeing as I'm a bit of B&M fan myself. :p

1. Dragon's Fury, Chessington World of Adventure, Maurer. (#9)
I actually really, REALLY love it and the ride I had on it at Ghosterforce was easily the best I've had on it and confirmed my love for it. It's really fun and you're almost guaranteed a decent spin on it. It has an interesting layout and the part from the final lift to the end can be insane if there's only two of you in the car. Fantastic!

2. Revenge of the Mummy, Universal Studios Florida, Premier. (#10)
Amazing dark ride section, fantastic theming and it's a fun coaster. Not the best ride but the experience makes up for it and I love the numerous surprises throughout the ride and the special effects are awesome. Excellent coaster!

3. Space Mountain, Disneyland California, Vekoma. (#11)
I can't pinpoint exactly why I really like this ride. I was surprised at the time how much I enjoyed it but it felt VERY fast, wild and being in the pitch dark there was no real idea about where it was going. Smooth, fun and an excellent family friendly ride.

4. Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, Dinsey's Hollywood Studios, Vekoma. (#13)
I rode this when I was 12 and it was my first launched coaster which is probably a reason why I rated it so highly at the time and particularly remembering enjoying it. It was pretty cool and not rough from what I remember. I fear this may drop quite dramatically in the Summer though.

5. Velocity, Flamingoland, Vekoma. (#14)
I can see how some people find it uncomfortable but I didn't have a problem with it at all. It's a decent coaster and pretty unique but I remember enjoying it a lot. Bit underrated in my eyes.

6. Big Thunder Mountain, Disneyland Paris, Vekoma. (#15)
The theming on this is outstanding. The coaster itself can be pretty dull (especially towards the front) but I love the way it dives under the lake to get to the the main island. It was also my first, what I consider to be, major coaster so I have that little extra bit of love for it. :p

7. Big Bad Wolf, Busch Gardens Europe, Arrow. (#19)
Really enjoyable coaster, the final drop over the lake was magnificent and I like how it interacts with theming and the landscape. I'm sad to see it go but from riding you could see its days were numbered, it was quite rough.

8. Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, Walt Disney Studios, Vekoma. (#21)
Decent ride, not as good as Florida's version and it felt much slower. Not much else to say about it really.

9. Montezooma's Revenge, Knott's Berry Farm, Schwarzkopf. (#24)
Fun ride but short and nothing really that special about it. It also happens to be Knott's second-best coaster, which says a lot about the rest of them!

10. Crush's Coaster, Walt Disney Studios, Maurer. (#25)
It's alright. I like the pre-lift theming and the coaster's not bad but there's nothing really great about it. Certainly not worth the ridiculous queues it gets.

Oh and really my favourite non-B&M/Intamin is Wild Mouse at Blackpool, but we're talking Steel coasters here. I'm sure if woodies were included hardly any of the coasters in these lists will be there.

I'm going to wait until the Mitch Hawker steel poll comes out and work it out from there.
