Six Flags Qiddiya | Saudi Arabia | Theme Park

It's not even just physical factors, but psyhcological too. Admittedly, I've only heard it from one local, but apparently, in these climates, it's not really anybody's idea of fun to spend a day outdoors if it can be helped. Spending the evening outdoors, sure, but the daylight itself is considered too hot for outdoor activities to be comfortable. Hence why most leisure centres tend to be indoors, full of shade, or generally only start to see life at sundown. And of course, you get there by driving in an air-conditioned car from door to door. I wonder how the outdoor-ness of the park will play into its perception by locals, which will have to make up most of the attendance for the park to make it economically.

Couldn't they just have opening hours in the evening? Like open 5pm-midnight?

It would help, but in the summer months it really doesn't make much difference. The night lows can regularly stay north of 30°C (it was never lower than 40°C for the first month or so I was in Abu Dhabi), and whilst that is much better than the mid-high 40s you get during the day (and you don't have the sun hammering you too), the humidity climbs a lot in the evening and in my experience it felt just as crippling as during the day. There's truly no respite from it outside of air conditioning.

This will be a park to visit in the winter, for sure. :D

Anyone know how the rest of the park is coming along other than the rides? Like Hotels/restaurants etc? I'm assuming this definitely isn't going to open in 2025 now - it still looks very much like a construction site

^ I wouldn't 100% count them out yet. The bulk of the rides look to be testing, there's still 6 months of 2025 to go, and a Winter launch would be best to coincide with the more agreeable outdoor weather.

With that said, if anyone is planning a trip to get on Falcon's Flight, I for one would strongly consider holding off until late 2026 at the earliest. I have a sneaking suspicion that it'll prove to be a bit of a diva during commissioning and that Intamin will have to pull out all the stops to get it running halfway near reliably.

On the flip side, it may be better to try and ride it in the opening week in case we have another Top Thrill 2 situation.

The cred anxiety is strong with this. All that new technology getting fried all day in 50° heat 😬

Hotels are starting to frame up-- concrete shells of 2 of them are up. But they're far behind the parks. The parks will open before the hotels are ready (and before the parking lot too since that's under the hotels). They'll operate out of a temporary lot for the first bit. The whole area is so intertwined among the hotels, parking, racetrack, and other attractions that it's going to be kind of an access mess for the first little while.

But it'll be cool regardless!

Should be interesting to see how well everything runs though thankfully it won't often be in the full heat since the park will typically operated 4pm to midnight or 1am.

Forgive me if this question has already been answered, but do we think we will ever get some good on-ride footage? I've heard that Saudi is VERY strict when it comes to cameras, and I imagine that they would obviously have a very strict loose article policy in the park as a whole. Even professional footage, like park-made testing footage, I wonder if we will ever get any--- I doubt any content creator like CoasterForce or TPR will ever get permission to film on-ride at this park, especially Falcon's Flight haha.

I would fully expect to see onride footage. You can find various clips of Sky Loop at BLVD World, Premier has posted their own video and in the case of SF it's likely to be filming by permission only and probably by professional services. Filming and cameras aren't really an issue. I've regularly filmed family coasters in Saudi, but a place like this will have a more developed loose article policy. But photos and videos in general are all permissible and common (provided it's not of a government facility or directly of ladies without their permission).

I fully expect SF to take both forward and reverse B-roll POVs that they'll likely have on social media.

IAAPA shared a nice interview taken during the Middle East Summit;

A few key points;
  • There was a side convo about Colossus being the most intense GCI designed to date (thoosie bait)
  • Qiddiya sent 60 students to Rosen College in Orlando, they spent their summers working at Six Flags parks across the country and all came back to join the team with Bachelor’s in hospitality
  • They took a 3D model of the park and simulated it in a software modelling out the location/movements of the sun. They used it to predict where when what would be in shade, and then make adjustments from there.
  • There was alot of talk about how it’s been challenging to convince the world this was a legitimate project, haha!

Snagged some of the B-roll photos, which confirms some of the trim placement on the main drop and airtime arch. Gorgeous seeing more of the ride in real-life context!

Just throwing out a couple more things

Wonder if they're looking at making a bigger announcement sometime in the coming weeks?

My vote is for this very-now-June, they have it as a milestone on their roadmap.

If they are not announcing opening date on June, they are for sure hitting something important (maybe finishing FF?)
