What's new

Silver Star

Not everyone hate's it, it's personal preference.

If you get a buzz from coaster's of a large height, and your not particularly fussed about airtime then you will love it.

If you're someone that thrives on airtime then your going to be dissapointed, the ride is heavily trimmed and doesn't have a particularly inspired layout either.

I don't hate it at all, it's absolutely brilliant!

If you sit on the front row and it's running well, it has floater airtime by the bucket loads. With a loose restraint, you can't help but float out of your seat nearly the entire way round.

Due to the sheer height of the drop, the speed of the ride is very exhilarating. It leaves you breathless pretty much all the way through. The 'slalom' section at the end is a really great finish.

The throughputs are insanely high, and while not themed, it is immaculate. Probably the best kept rollercoaster in the world, every day looks like opening day. It's sleek and sexy and gorgeous from every angle, like a beautiful sports car.

Silver Star.

Edit: About the airtime: my first ride on it was August 2011, and I found it to be absolutely rammed with floater airtime, which was odd as I had heard how little airtime it had. But I was with my TTF friend who has ridden it every year since 2005 (I think) and he said it was running completely differently than he had ever known it. So maybe I was just lucky, or maybe they've changed something.

I had ridden it in 2008 (Ben, correct me if I am wrong) and I found it absolutely boring. Then I rerode it in 2011 and found out the trims had been swapped to magnetic trims. I know they shouldn't make a real difference but I didn't notice them grab as much as they used to, thus offering a much more thrillring ride.

About the throughput it's something you have to see to believe. Trains go in and out REALLY fast and the crew do a great job at filling all seats (granted they have the LED sensors telling them if the restraint is down or not) and dispatching trains within interval.

It should really read "I rode".

Come on Oriol, get your tenses right <///3

Oh, and it was also 2009. Glad it was so memorable for you <///3

It's definitely my least favourite of them, and even when I first rode it (it was my first B&M mega) I was unimpressed. This was 2008. The best part of the ride for me was the snake turns towards the end. I'm a sucker for directional changes.

Silver Star isn't bad, but it's one of those coasters I never really think of. The "meh" category is, in ways, almost worst than the "bad" category, which at least is filled with coasters of enough character to entertain with their terribleness

^That final s-bend on Silver Star was always the best part!

I'm from the camp of actually loving it. Admittedly i've not ridden it in, erm, quite a lot of years, and it might've deteriorated, but I really enjoyed it. Its not intense by any stretch (unless height makes things intense for you), but its fun, its fast, and I think it looks good! Admittedly, that sound baffle has probably killed that now though.

I found it rather so-so too - as people have said, the s-bends are great, and there's a nice little "surprise drop" on the layout (after some trims) too.

But - given the choice between silver star and EGF, then it would be EGF (as long as they got the despatching done efficiently), and if piraten entered the equation, it would be that!

I like Silver Star. It's a nice ride. Tall and provides some floater. It's just that it's so slow, it literally crawls over the top of the hills. To me a hyper should be about speed and strong airtime, and Silver Star has none of it. The height alone makes it a decent ride though, and the awesome final s-bend of course!

I went to Europa for the first time in 2010, I actually preferred Silver Star to Blue Fire. BF's launch was a little tame IMO but I really enjoyed SS. I went with a group of 4 and at the end of the day after a couple of rides on each it was SS that we wanted to re-ride most (although that was in part due to a much longer queue for BF and the fact that SS was closer to the car park. The only problem is, I just can't remember how it was for airtime, I was impressed with the height and speed (and song) but airtime wasn't one of the things that stood out in my memory, EGF was more impressive in that respect.
