Credit Whore 2016
As those of who that have read my report from travelling in the east 2 weeks ago that the two Vekomas in the area, Wipeout and Odyssey spited. Stone Cold needed the new cred at Gt. Yarmouth Pleasure Beach and Miner Mike so asked if I wanted to come along in the hope I could mop up these last two creds in that area.
He picked me up at 8:30 and we made our way across to Lowestoft to Pleasurewood Hills. I had emailed them a couple of days previous asking if, as I had paid full price a couple of weeks ago, they'd let me in for [strike]discount[/strike] free, no such luck. Luckily I had a voucher for entry for £14.50 so used this after making sure Wipeout was operating. I stood in the car park for 10 minutes before I saw it physically go around.
Once in I made a beeline for the cred, which was walk on.
I wasn't expecting much, it's a Boomerang for **** sake. I sat front because I've never done that before.
Yeah it was bleak. Easily the roughest and most nauseating I've been on, I hate going backwards on these bastard things. I was grateful to get the big red spot turn blue on coaster hyphen count.
Next stop was Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach so Stone Cold could ride Whirlwind. I'd got the cred just two weeks previous, but for the sake of 25 LoG points I re-rode for the £1 it cost. It's fun.
Next we had to endure a three hour drive through small single carriageway roads which were quite trafficked up to Skegness. It was a long journey but the cred that awaited me kept me going. Fantasy Island had tweeted that Odyssey was open today...despite it being windier than my last visit. What could possibly go wrong?
We parked up finally and walked towards Fantasy Island. I saw it going round! Finally! Surely this was it. We arrived and topped up the credit cards they use there and joined the queue. Something weird happened and we found ourselves front waiting for the next train meaning we got to go front row. Selfie time!
The train arrived and we got on.
Now, I wasn't expecting much, but I was just so excited to ride Odyssey on the third try. We were lifted up the hill and I noticed how high up we were. The first drop is excellent, really really excellent. But then it all goes to ****. It is rough. It is uncomfortable. It corners worse than Stone Cold in his Volvo. It is shockingly poor. I had heard mixed reviews but, apart from the first drop, this coaster is all bad. I was grateful when we arrived back in the station and my head started to pound. But anyway
I GOT THE CRED
Happy days. My day had been successful. Stone Cold rode the travelling Runaway Train opposite. Whore.
And then we walked back to the car to travel north to Mablethorpe for Dune's Lesiure. I got the cred back in April 2014 but have now been back twice since. The operator definitely recognised me. I think that's embarrassing? Stone Cold got the cred.
We'd both got what we came for and still had the rest of the afternoon to kill. What better way to do this than to find a Harvester. The nearest one was in Lincoln (an hour away) and thought we'd combine this with a walk up to the cathedral.
The Harvester was the best I'd been to, it has just been refurbished, the salad options were rather decadent (cauliflower coronation!), and the drinks machine was electronic. Yay. We then hiked up an impressive hill to the centre of Lincoln, giving great views over a (damp, cloudy) Lincoln.
This was clearly the newer part of Lincoln because the centre part (up the hill) was fab, just really beautiful. We soon found the cathedral.
The rain just made it feel all the more daunting. It was fab <3 Sadly it was closed to visitors for performances of Jesus Christ Superstar. We mooched back through the town.
Lincoln was beautiful, I'm really glad we went. We went back to the car and made our way back to Cambridge.
It was a great day filled with accomplishments, the best part is, I never have to return to the hellhole that is Skegness again...unless they get a new cred.
Thank you very much for reading as always.
