What's new

Not being racist, but...

Everytime I go to a park in France, loads of people, even adults, casually push in front of us in queues. Now before you complain about generalisation and all that, I do understand that it is only a smallish amount of people that actually do it, and i'm sure most French people are considerate. I guess it is partly to do with different cultures, but in the UK, queue jumping is taken really seriously and hardly anybody does it (as far as i've seen).

For example I was at a small 'theme park' in Chamonix, and loads of people were pushing through, without anyone else bothering to even try to prevent it. I was at Bagatelle, and the same thing happened, and at Parc Asterix!

So my question, and I know it probably sounds stupid, is why do they do it more than us? Is it because we're British? I don't see why...

Any suggestions...

It's cos France sucks... Ben's nailed it ;)

Seriously though, I think it's just something that happens. I can't be arsed to write a bit long response (I'm sure Furie will be able to write something far more sensible, well written and well informed), but essentially it's just something that happens in France (and Spain a bit) that doesn't happen here. In the same way that they have different attitudes to what's acceptable in public than we do (for example, chewing gum in Port Aventura). Just something we have to deal with I think, they're not as polite as we are over here. ;)

Actually I listen to Skrillex, who is too awesome to be categorised. He's a massive douche though.

So I gotta ask, Have you been to parks in the US? About 50% of the time people will cut you. It's obnoxious and I can't stand it. (50% may be an exaggeration, but It does happen WAY to often.)

I stand by what I said. And that is the reason why people are pushing infront of you is because you listen to Skrillex and thus lose all credibility in taste.

Then you're damn lucky. People will just hop the rail and cut the entire cue.

America's no way near as bad as Spain or France for queue jumping, at all.

With regard to US queue jumping... I only encountered queue jumping at all at SFOG, and that's just cuz it's SFOG.

Spain is terrible. Absolutely terrible.

But what you gotta remember is different cultures place different sh!ts in different areas. Yanks really hate rudeness and think Brits are terribly rude, but we don't give a **** and actually see American politeness as fake and annoying. Same with Spain and France and queues.

Just try and remember that morals, values and er... all that stuff, aren't universal.

If any mother **** cuts in front of me when I'm in the States and Canada, I'm going to make it well known to the people around of my displeasure. Anybody who was at Ghosterforce a few years back would have seen the epic queue jumping lady at the dodgems which I pointed out angrily and Richard(?) carried on and finished epically with hilarious consequences.

I don't care if it's different cultural attitudes, I've waited in a queue for a set amount of time, and I expect others to do the same. I can feel my Britishness coming strongly through here.

^Yeah, you should do that. It always makes people look really cool when they make a complete arse of themselves like that. Not embarrassing at all for the other people you're with.

I didn't find this epic or hilarious. It was something which needed to be raised but went on way too long and got uncomfortable.

I'm also disappointed at this topic because when ever anyone says "not being racist, but..." its usually followed by a massively racist statement, and this wasn't really :/

We had a group of people queue jump us a few years back, the queue was about 2 hours long, they jumped us right at the start so I just left it, until about an hour and a half in we pointed them out quietly to a park worker, 5 minutes later they were escorted out of the queue line looking most disgruntled. Their ignorance cost them an hour and a half and no drama was caused. Perfect. Most of the time though if its just 1 or 2 people id rather just let it go, not worth the hassle.

Agreed. I didn't realize the French were a race.

Heh.

I like to imagine everyone means "culture" when they talk about race. In almost all cases it makes more sense.

Also, you could argue race doesn't exist. There's no evidence it does......

I've never experienced queue jumping anywhere like in France. I remember getting REALLY pissed ff in Zeus' station. It got to the point where I became aggressive in English. Forget the language barrier, an aggressive manner is the same in any language. I was a called a "rosbeef" which I took as a big compliment.
