First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 12 BUSCH GARDENS TAMPA BAY!

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 8 ANIMAL KINGDOM!

They don't have to pay loads of money to get in the cars for the parade. It really is just a matter of luck. Two of Benin's friends got to go in the parade just because a Cast Member asked them when they were queuing up for a character. It really is completely random.

It's a shame you missed Lion King and Finding Nemo as they are well worth the time and the comfort you get from being in AC.

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 8 ANIMAL KINGDOM!

So you didn't go over to the Conservation Station? It's worth going over to just for the train ride tbh, it's like a recreation of the old Asian trainlines, you know the ones you see with people sat on the roof and things? And there's some cool interactive stuff over there.

And I love Countdown to Extinction too, it's a really great, unsung diamond of the Disney parks, a lot of people just don't bother with it just it's genuinely thrilling and terrifying!

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 8 ANIMAL KINGDOM!

Never heard of countdown to extinction. What is the premises of the ride?

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 8 ANIMAL KINGDOM!

Spoilers for Josh:

You go to a Museum, and one of the researchers gives you a mission to travel back in time to pick up a live dinosaur that is key to future research. But the time period you are travelling to is very close to when the meteor hits. The predictable happens, and the ride becomes a wild goose chase, trunding around in the dark trying to track down this little dinosaur, all the while avoiding meteors and bigger, scarier dinos.
The track layout is an exact clone of Indiana Jones at DL

Dinosaur is cool and all, but I felt disappointed so much of it is just darkness, and some dinosaurs made no noise at all, even when they should have. When I returned to orlando a couple of weeks ago I was wondering why I had no real visual memories of the ride....Because theres not much to see for a lot of it!

I much prefer Indy.

Really? Wow I didn't know that.

I found it fine. If it's too light you'll see it's all just in a big warehouse. I found everything easy to see and the ride was quite loud. Can't remember how loud the dinos where but I didn't care. The ride was just so frantic and awesome and felt completely out of control. :)
And the darkness added in places. Especially when you knew a dino was right near you and then you stopped and then as soon as it came out raced off again lol.

Day 9: Disney Quest

We also did Epcot this day but Im just going to write about Disney Quest for now as that's all I have time for. :)

We decided to Disney Quest in the morning as we thought it would be quieter then as most people go to Downtown Disney in the evenings.
We were trying to hurry and leave early for once but we ended up getting there about 11am. Turns out it opens quite late anyway (10:30 I think) so for once we got somewhere almost on opening. :p

We got in the lift and they sent us up to the 3rd floor. We decided though it would be best to start on the top floor then work our way down so we walked up the stairs and went to the toilets on the way.

Here's a map of the building and I'll try and point out where abouts we went and what letter and stuff it is so those who haven't been can still have a rough idea where things are.
DisneyQuestMap.jpg

First up was Invasion! An ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter (A on the map). It said it was a 360° high-action mission. There were 4 to a car sitting almost back to back like you do on dragons fury. One person is the driver and the others shoot. It's pretty terrible as the graphics are rubbish and you're not sure what you're meant to be doing and it's hard to aim as the driver is always jumping over lava and turning. So yeah I dunno if we won but by the end of it I was pretty bored.

Next we did Ride the Cosmix (B) which was one of those games where you wear a helmet with a screen in it. Then you get a stick the you swipe about to move the stick on screen. The helmets were really unconfortable and heavy and it was hard to keep your head up. Also because the front of the helmet stuck out quite far I caught the stick on it a couple of times which hurt. The game was alright. Once again the graphics were crap and the stick was a bit unresponsive. But it was different I guess.
226185_2296209521779_1145311439_2869701_5700948_n.jpg

We decided to try something a bit more retro next so headed to the Classic Games area (C).

284200_2296210441802_1145311439_2869706_5628693_n.jpg

We spent most the time here playing the ball game with the hoops. I had to wait for the person in front of me before I got a lane but on my first go I beat everyone else and my first two balls went in the top two corner holes. :p

It was good to have free games on the pinball machines as they're quite hard to find now and don't seem worth the money. I still enjoy all the chutes and seeing where the ball goes. But I'm still not very good at it. :p

They also had this along with games like Pac-man and Frogger etc. :)
283513_2296210641807_1145311439_2869708_5693125_n.jpg

We then went down a floor to F on the map. I've only just realised now it's called the Kid's Area and is for 2-7 year olds. I don't care though as they had cool games like Guitar Hero, Air Hockey, Dance Machines and Giant Tetris etc.

Of course I had to be awesome and beat the highscores on Guitar Hero. I played the first song on Medium as I haven't played it in about a year lol. So this isn't bad for a first go again.
215184_2296211761835_1145311439_2869714_6398241_n.jpg

Considering this is the score out of EVERYONE that's ever played that machine. :)
282593_2296212001841_1145311439_2869715_5597011_n.jpg

They had this weird game with coloured pipes that was hard to understand. I lost because I didn't have a clue what I was meant to be doing lol.
281624_2296211081818_1145311439_2869711_3798371_n.jpg

Giant Tetris.
284077_2296212161845_1145311439_2869716_1220975_n.jpg

Round the back of this area there were some other games like whack-a-mole and where you have to shoot the teeth out and some other game where you have to throw ball-pool balls at targets on a screen.

This bowling game was quite weird. It was half physical game and half computer game (the ball dropped down but then appeared on the screen).
281625_2296212961865_1145311439_2869721_4349252_n.jpg

This is a picture of the 4th floor (but I took the picture while on the 5th floor).

After we'd spent quite a bit of time in this section we moved down to the 3rd floor.
I think we went to Buzz Lightyear's AstroBlaster (L) first on this floor.

281253_2296213281873_1145311439_2869723_1851497_n.jpg

By the time we had got there the people in front had just gone in so we were first in line for the next ride (btw there weren't any queues for anything so far apart from maybe one person in front on a game).

Anyway it wasn't long before we were on. It's two people to a car and one drives and the other shoots. When it starts you drive over the balls on the floor and it sucks it up into your car. Then you load it into the cannon and fire it at the other cars. If you hit them then their car starts spinning. It's quite good fun although the cannons don't move much so it's hard to aim and the cars are quite hard to steer so you don't get many balls and it's hard to aim and hit anything. Still good fun though and there should definitely be more of these. The balls are quite loud when they hit the perspex your car as well and it kept making my dad jump.

Once we were off I think we went and did Mighty Ducks Pinball Slam (H). It's quite hard to work out what to do as people are standing on discs leaning in all different directions.
285560_2296213641882_1145311439_2869726_498366_n.jpg

223696_2296213801886_1145311439_2869727_1335351_n.jpg

Trying to keep it simple. On the screen is an ice rink with bumpers and stuff round the edge. Then there's lots of pucks (you play as the puck and there's one for each player) which is numbered. Then you lean to move your puck and try to get it past the goalie (which is hard) and hit other stuff to make your points go up. It's REALLY hard to control and because you're always bouncing off stuff it's hard to slow down and then make the puck go where you want. I think I came last by quite a lot in this one but all the big games in this place seemed to be a bit meh.

After losing I we went to the Race Zone (I) which I won a couple of races on so that made up for my previous loss. :p
229644_2296214921914_1145311439_2869733_6664499_n.jpg

My dad then went to find a toilet and realised there was a section on the floor above we hadn't been to so we went up there.
We all went on the Deal or No Deal machine which we all did crap at as we stuck it out to get what was in our own box. :p
283510_2296215081918_1145311439_2869734_7668555_n.jpg

We went further into the Sports Arena Arcade (D). They had a few of those basketball things where you have to shoot as many hoops as you can in the time limit. That was quite busy but even still it was just a couple of people in front.

They also had computerised mini golf which was quite fun. Although it's more fun in real life.
223719_2296215321924_1145311439_2869736_5645412_n.jpg

Of course I was just waaaay too good at it. ;)
263259_2296215521929_1145311439_2869737_154267_n.jpg

My dad said he wanted to make a move soon as Epcot was the park he wanted to do and spend a long time doing so we went down to the floor 2 to do CyberSpace Mountain (S).

228862_2296215881938_1145311439_2869739_116294_n.jpg

The queue was really short so me and Andrew were in within 5 minutes (Richard and my dad didn't want to do it).
First you get given a swipe card and go into the design lab. Then you swipe it at one of the touch screen consoles and start building.
285024_2296216001941_1145311439_2869740_4196330_n.jpg

It's quite limited. You choose your landscape (like desert or space etc) then you choose different elements. You get given choices along the bottom and you just touch it to add it. For those who have played it it's pretty similar to this game.
17849.jpg

Here's a youtube video that shows the building of one so you can see what I mean.

Obviously we tried to make it as intense as we could but because of the scenery you had to try and build round it so once we had used up all the track we only had about 3 inversions and a thrill rating of 3/5. :(
It's a shame they don't let you change it. The whole time you're on a timer to get it done to make people hurry up. They don't even let you name it what you want. They give you a list of words and you have to pick two to be put together to be the name of your coaster.
But oh well. We headed up into one of the simulators.
We put all our stuff in the lockers and the member of staff swiped our card. The ride was alright and it's fun actually going upside down in a simulator.

It's hard to explain how it works so I've found a Youtube video for you. It's not as intense as it looks.

Once the ride has finished and you're waiting to be let out it plays back a preview of your video (it films you on it). Ours was rubbish but it was quite funny as when we went upside down it made Andrew look fat.

It's a shame we had to leave after that as we missed and entire floor and the bottom one looked pretty cool with simulator raft rides and stuff. Oh well. :(

And that's it for Disney Quest. Sorry I didn't take that many photos and most came out crap. It was quite dark in there and most the time I was playing games so didn't have many chances to get my camera out.
Hope you all enjoyed it anyway. I'll try and get Epcot done when I can and complete day 9.

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 1) DISNEY QUEST

I Have enjoyed reading this report and it's good to see another Florida report and hear an opinion from someone Who's not been before.

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 1) DISNEY QUEST

Indy >>>>> Dinosaur, but Dinosaur is still FAB!

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 1) DISNEY QUEST

Dinosaur really scares me I jump every single time.

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 1) DISNEY QUEST

I prefered Dinosaur to Indy.... :-/

Great report Ollie. Plenty of detail and images. Always good to hear different opinions on Orlando parks.

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 1) DISNEY QUEST

Day 9 continued: Epcot

After leaving Downtown Disney we headed over to Epcot.

They also have all these plaque things near the entrance that they were making when Maddie went. You could pay to engrave a message or have your photo on one. It's annoying that they still don't do something like this as I'd love to be on something that's become a part of Disney History and millions of people will see. Oh well. I couldn't find the two that Maddie did as she couldn't remember the number so I didn't bother looking for more than a couple of minutes.

It's a good job they stop the car after the first corner to check everyone has their seatbelts on as one person in our car somehow didn't realise there were any.

My thoughts...

Test Track
Great ride. I was really looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint. The indoor section is great fun and the first time you feel acceleration it's amazing. I was expecting the chambers with the heat, cold and acid to be better though. They didn't feel hot or cold much at all and I haven't a clue what's meant to happen in the acid bit.
The outside bit is great fun. Shame it takes a while to reach it's top speed as I kept thinking "this isn't fast" but when we got to the corner at the back it really picked up and was great fun.
But overall it's an amazing ride. Decent length and a mix of a great indoor section and a thrilling outdoor section. :)

The exit through the car making factory and show room are pretty cool. :)

It's hard to get a shot of the ride going round the building as it's hard to find a gap to look up and see it and the cars move pretty fast.
223696_2296241282573_1145311439_2869826_147737_n.jpg

Decided to head over to Soarin after this.

It's really hard to find in the park and we ended up at the wrong building first of all. Finally found it though.
216684_2296242442602_1145311439_2869833_6154129_n.jpg

It's weird as you go into the building where the ride is...
267374_2296242642607_1145311439_2869834_2064357_n.jpg

And you're greeted by this.
284610_2296242802611_1145311439_2869835_5626533_n.jpg

And it's like "Urm...Where's the ride?" It's not signposted so I had to ask a member of staff where it was. Turns out the entrance is hidden away down a floor in the corner under the walkway above.
267375_2296243002616_1145311439_2869836_668959_n.jpg

The board outside said the wait was 55 minutes but in the end it took 70. Urgh.
The queue is the MOST BORING THING EVER!. It's just a straight concrete tunnel.
284498_2296243322624_1145311439_2869838_3569781_n.jpg

What I don't get is that the ride takes about 60 people at a time. Yet every time the queue moves it only seems to move about 4 people then stops. It's sooooo sloooooowwww.
Then when you finally get to the corner (took us 50 minutes to get there) you realise that it goes further down there as well. :(
285164_2296244402651_1145311439_2869844_7039062_n.jpg

Then once you get to the end you see a member of staff so you must be getting there soon surely?
NOPE.
281225_2296244962665_1145311439_2869847_2786796_n.jpg

Once you get down to the end of this tunnel you get told to stand on a number by the doors. You end up waiting here for ages as well.

My thoughts...

Soarin'
Out of all the rides at any park this was probably the one of the rides I was most looking forward to doing. After the most boring queue I've EVER been in. I was hoping the ride would be worth the wait.
Shame we ended up on the bottom row at the edge which meant for the whole film we had peoples legs hanging in the way from above us. We were about 10 feet off the floor and you could see the edges of the screen. So annoying that the only place to make it amazing is to sit on the top in the middle as you're further into the screen then.
It was still alright. The film and music is amazing. But I spent the whole ride thinking "this is ****" as the movements didn't sync up with the film at all and all the things like the peoples feet REALLY pissed me off.

Got off wishing I hadn't wasted almost 90 minutes of my life just to see some shoes. Would love to go back on it and get a good seat although sadly you don't get to choose where you sit and I NEVER want to see that bore of a queue EVER again.

We then decided to start going round some of the countries so headed to Mexico.

It looked great inside as well. :)

This restaurant was pretty cool. I'd imagine it's really expensive. That temple thing in the background looks amazing in the lighting conditions inside.

We saw this boat ride had no queue so decided to go on it.

It started off well...

But then soon after it changed completely.

All these screens just appeared.

There were a couple of bits of nice themeing though.

My thoughts...

Gran Fiesta Tour
Didn't know what to expect with this. When it started I thought it would be similar to the River Caves at Blackpool. The first bits were nice an going between that amazing temple and the restaurant was cool. But when all the screens appeared it got pretty boring as what was going on made no sense. It was alright but I wouldn't do it again.

Next we headed into Norway.

We went in the little museum they had in the church thing.

We then sat down and ate. These really steep stairs reminded me of ones my grandma used to have at her house.

As usual it took a while. Here's a photo from when we started eating.

And another after everyone had finished.

The firework show was starting in the next 10 minutes so we got up. I saw a space right by where we were eating but my dad said he wanted to find my aunt so we were really pushing it. We walked right round to the front of the lake and didn't find them so stood and watched. Although annoyingly we couldn't get near the front.
I still filmed it and managed to push myself near to the lake and film in between some peoples shoulders.

Here's a video of the highlights filmed in HD. Take a look at it as it came out really well and the show is amazing. :)

After that we left. There was the usual rush of people heading out the park. Lucky our car was close by so we didn't have to queue for the trams or have far to walk. We hadn't finished Epcot so decided to come back another day.

Anyway that's day 9 completed.

Next trip report will be on the Airboat Ride, Planet Hollywood and Mini-golf.

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 2) EPCOT!

Is it just me, or did you seem to have hight expectations of almost EVERY ride in Florida?

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 2) EPCOT!

No mention of Mission Space...

WTF fail...

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 2) EPCOT!

Soarin' really isn't that difficult to find. I got lucky that I was front row when I went, but it still doesn't stop you seeing the edges of the screen if you look. And the sync was fine when I rode it.

Test track is boring. It's only exciting if you've never been in a car before. I don't see what the big deal is.

And why no Mission Space?

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 2) EPCOT!

Only just found and read this topic. Fantastic read! I think it was 2007 when I went to Florida.

Space Mountain: I agree, for what would be a crappy little family coaster, it's absolutely fantastic. I remember coming off first time and thinking I'd give it a 9 or even 10.

Dinosaur: Eh. It was loud and jerky all the time. Plus I'm not a dark ride fan anyway... apart from Hex.

Shame I didn't manage to get on Soarin' (though maybe not by your review) or Test Track. But I did do Mission: Space and if you didn't, then you really missed out massively.

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 2) EPCOT!

Nah we didn't get to do Mission Space sadly. :(
And I had high expectations for most the rides as literally everyone I've spoken to that's been to Florida said it's the most amazing place ever and how amazing all the rides are. Plus when I was younger and watched videos of the rides they looked fantastic. Most of them were but there were a few that were a bit meh and a let down.
I still enjoyed every ride though and had a great time. :p

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 2) EPCOT!

I am sort of enjoying your report but a lot of it feels you have watched a load of POV's and then comparing the rides to them.

Did you actually like anything out there :)

I have to agree with you on a few points, some rides had got a lot rougher since we were there 3 years ago,

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 2) EPCOT!

Really enjoying this TR. Just over a year until I'm back there...

I didn't really rate Mission Space that much, it's alright but I thought Test Track and Soarin' were much more fun.

At least you didn't do Ellen's Big Fat Lesbian Energy Adventure Universe Of Crap, or whatever it's called.

Re: First Time Evah in Florida - DAY 9 (PART 2) EPCOT!

You... Didn't go on Mission Space...?

Ollie, you **** fail at life. Get out.

And yet you did Snoarin'? UGH. Get the **** out.

Idiot. Knob-jockey. **** -twiddler.
