Seems like rossa is the closest to the sea. The majority of the Intamin launchers are more inward on the land. I'd imagine that the salty air might have an effect on major mechanical parts to some extent.
We havn't had a launched ride built next to the sea like this before though, have we, so how do you know Xpress' claims will be completely false. The only other launched ride near water that springs to mind is Wicked Twister, and Erie is freshwater as far as I know. The Persian Gulf is one of the saltiest bits of ocean in the world aswell.
Having said that, this isn't exactly on the edge of the sea, it's inland a bit.

If you look, it's pretty close to the sea, probably similar distances as Zaturn.
I'd also like to see servicing dates, to see if the "near sea" rides need to be serviced more often than rides that are far from the sea. I'd imagine the salt air would play with components like the steel cables on the launches a bit more than usual.

Huh kind of looks like a mirror image of RITA, except a bit different and enormous. I really cant imagine this coaster being boring, the launch would make me cry for a start, i can see where your coming from though. The layout seems* a bit forceless.
And this thing about coasters next to the sea, what does an aircraft carrier do?
you may say it has its launch mechanism in an enclosed space but hang on, isnt a hydraulic launch system encased in a building anyway..
The track and train will be fine, i say this due to common sense: I trust they made any changes they needed to, like some coasters and their earthquake-proofness.
But the park looks well, a bit rubbish if you ask me. More like something that man who wears a ferrari hat to do the shopping would enjoy. :wink:

I did actually do a quick search, and didn't find anything. But actually, I was mostly going on what Hixee had said earlier in the topic. To say that I don't do any research is utterly untrue.
I'm not suggesting that they wouldn't have thought of this, simply wondering if any extra precautions and measures have to be taken to deal with it. Although, whilst on the subject, large scale engineering projects often undergo problems where something goes wrong, no matter how much effort is put into thinking them through.

Just to clear up a few things from the healthy discussion above - yes, a sea shore location, particularly where wind is involved, CAN affect a ride's design. If I recall correctly, one fifth of what Blackpool Pleasure Beach paid for PMBO went directly on corrosion protection (e.g. galvanising, several coats of specialist paint etc.) so it's definitely not something you ignore. When you poke a bit of hand rail up on top of the Rev at BPB and your screwdriver goes straight through it, you know you've found corrosion... To be fair to UC though (I'd hate for him to get all angry and waste everybody's time), he's right, Intamin will have certainly done their research and covered this problem before shipping the ride. It's not like this is the first steel structure in the Emirates. The hydraulics etc. will also be pretty well shielded from the climate in their housing.
For the record, they don't re-track PMBO every year... geez, you can forget fountains and kiddies parks if you think they need to shell out for that! They do occasionally re-track sections, but this is usually to sort out damage from the p*ss poor Arrow geometry.
Oh, and I know I've tried this before, but one more time - it's Abu Dhabi people, ABU DHABI. Not Dubai, they're different.

Found a pov of the 4D Dark ride...except the person behind the camera keeps turning away to film their kids..Sort of just flits from fantasy theme to fantasy theme, with black light scenes tying it all together.

The park has been sold to the government so the company can pay their debts. Things cannot be going so well at the park.
