Energylandia ft Zadra + bonus mystery coaster - Thursday 28th August 2019

Hi everyone. So it's time for my third trip report in 11 or 12 years on here. I've got time so here you go. I spent ages writing this and editing photos so I feel for @gavin and his comprehensive reports from China ?.

After seeing Zadra would open early, I decided my late summer trip would be to Poland. I'd always wanted to visit Krakow and the fact that Energylandia was turning into quite a cred-filled park just made the decision easier.

I booked the Energylandia shuttle from Krakow well in advance. It's stupidly busy with people standing if no seats are available for the 1hr+ journey. Definitely get there early and with your tickets.

The park entrance is like a generic fairy tale castle with a tacky Energylandia logo emblazoned across it. The saving grace is Hyperion soaring alongside the car park - it looks super impressive from that angle. Music was blaring and I got to witness some sort of dance show as the park opened. The mascots (generic too) were there and everyone was in high spirits.

(I only remembered to get a photo of this at night ) apologies

I found a map and made a bee-line for Zadra. The park is very compact and densely-packed with rides. There's a sort of highway path through the middle but the Dragon zone (where the new rides and RMC is) is across a motorway so you have to take an underpass to get over and it's a bit annoying.

The new area is stunning. While the rest of the park is a mishmash of fantasy styles and little-themed rides, this new zone is impressively designed, with a medieval feel and lots of interesting buildings. But of course, Zadra is the standout here and just looks incredibly daunting from every angle.

I was actually a bit nervous for my first ride. The queueline was vast and looped under the ride and through the supports. You have to put everything in lockers here, and these are invariably halfway through the ride queue. You get a wristband for 5 zloty and can use it across the park. Each locker is opened on two sides so when you leave you can collect your stuff easily. Anyway, my first RMC:

Queued 15mins, rode mid train..the seats were lapbar and seatbelt combo and felt nice and comfortable. I was stapled in but didn't mind for the first ride. Very steep lift hill, insanely intense drop and a fast layout. I came off impressed but not as impressed as I'd hoped. It didn't feel as fast as I'd expected but it was only ten thirty AM. Shout-out to the last inversion which was really well-paced.

I hoovered up the two other brand new creds here - a Vekoma family coaster than was super smooth but lasted all of 25 seconds or so, and a dreadful little Barbieri thing that was just cheap tat.

Back over to the main park, I queued for the Maurer launch coaster Formule. It was getting hot (maybe 28c) and the queue was half in the sun but had these sprinklers throughout that soaked you. This was a recurring theme throughout the park. 30min queue here.

Anyway, the ride was fun, more intense than I had expected but with restrictive restraints. Also the launch was kinda weak.

The park was getting busy already:

Next up was Speed - the water coaster. This had an hour queue in the end (huge queues plagued every water ride thanks to 32c weather). These models look the part with the stupidly high lift. And I actually thought it was a fun ride - the drop was decent and the splashdown was a soaked which was appreciated given the heat.

I ventured back to the Dragon bit for lunch and ended up queuing over 20mins for a chicken burger. I noticed food and beverage queues were long and slow moving throughout the day. No one seemed to be in much of a rush to serve.

Anyway, after lunch was Hyperion. It's at the other end of the park and is definitely a crowd pleaser. This queue was mostly indoors and reminiscent of that at Liseberg for Helix. The trains were very open with lapbars only.

So the lift and drop was amazing - maybe even better than Zadra especially with the open train design. The airtime hill was ejector intensity and the flip/ dive loop was a weird sensation on a typically-airtime filled ride type. After that it went downhill for me. I had chosen an outer seat which is a little out from the track (like a less extended wingrider) and near the end there was noticeable shaking to which became quite uncomfortable. Not Furios Baco level by any means but a real judder. The pacing of the ride is really something but the shaking affected my experience. Later on I rode a middle seat and it was much better. It's an amazing ride for sure but the back rows seem to suffer.

With Hyperion ticked off there weren't too many standout creds to do - I went on a rapids and another log flume (the tiny but ridiculously wet Toffifee one) and then onto the family boomerang. Not as fun as Raik at Phantasialand but decent enough.

I rode my first SLC next (Mayan coaster or something odd like that). It had what must be the worst colour scheme of any coaster and no theming except for the station. It was fun at points but was rough in equal measure. I think it's quite new so I presume older ones are worse?

I don't want to write a dissertation so I'll finish with my last ride on Zadra, back row. By the evening the coaster looked even better and it was absolutely hauling around the track. Even from the ground it was noticeably faster. The zero g stall was paced much better, the airtime hill was far more intense and the ending just had a real pace to it. I came off thinking I may have a new number one.

Obligatory shot

It's a weird theme park in all, with mixed up theming and no definite zones like a normal theme park. With Zadra and Hyperion they've got some of Europe's best coasters and the new launcher next year will boost the park even more. Hopefully they continue with the effort that they put into the new area because that was really well done.

Day two : Zakopane

This mountain resort is approx 2hr 15 from Krakow and is mainly visited for the Tatra Mountains nearby. It's a nice place and very popular in both summer and winter.

I happened to spot a cred but it wasn't quite finished (spite grrr). It's called Jungle Adventure but I can't find reference on rcdb. Not sure if it's opening or being taken down.
