Disney's Hollywood Studios | Monsters Inc | Vekoma (?) SFC | 202?

An animation reel was shown off at the SXSW Conference today, depicting the elevators immediately lifting trains out of all four (yes, four) loading platforms. Also, the seats have controlled rotations.

This may very well end up being one of the coolest station experiences out there.

It's like the very start of Soarin' but even more terrifying.

It's so weird, things like Kingda Ka or Fury 325 don't bother me at all, but getting yanked up into the air like this gives me the heebie jeebies

^^ The coaster experience itself doesn't have rotation, right? Looks like they turned the F.L.Y rotation system on it's side, with how the trains on that have the seats rotate as they exit the station.

Nice all-encompassing trademark for MONSTROPOLIS filed the other day, listed for every purpose under the sun such as "Amusement park and theme park services" and "Entertainment services in the nature of an amusement park show". So yes, this will probably be our formal land name.

The park announced that Rock 'n' Roller Coaster will close March 1st to begin work on the rebranded Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets, with the 'reimagined experience' set to open in summer 2026. Source

Is it me, or is The Muppets a slightly odd choice of theme for a ride like Rock’n’Rollercoaster?

Don’t get me wrong, I think the Aerosmith theme has probably had its day, but The Muppets would not have been my first guess at a replacement theme… I’d have had The Muppets down as more of a family ride theme myself!

Not just you, heard loads of people say this. It's a poor choice for RnRC seeing as it's the most thrilling ride at Disney. Not at all suitable for family-friendly Muppets.

If I had to re-theme it, I'd come up with a story where each train has songs from different rock bands.

Might not gel as well as you think, because then you create the issue of guests wanting to wait or ride on specific trains. Cosmic Rewind was smart to randomize songs, and even that is a bit that only works for like one attraction per resort.

Plus Rock’n’Roller runs many trains and frequently switches them out for refurb, theming each one would give guests an unnecessary insight into the park’s maintenance schedule (as if bloggers aren’t nosy enough already). Having one consistent ride theme and on ride audio spiel is the way to go here.

I imagine a big part of the decision was to appease fans of the old Muppetvision attraction and its surrounding area. I believe it was the last project Jim Henson ever worked on and a lot of fans are quite protective over it. A lot of people thought this new Monsters Inc area would replace the Animation Courtyard however when it was announced it would replace Muppets, there was understandably some concern. I imagine plonking the Muppets onto R n Rollercoaster is Disney's quick and cheap way to keep the Muppets at the parks and therefore keep fans somewhat happy.

True, you don't want guests waiting for certain trains, but you could easily make it so that you don't know which band/song you're getting until the ride starts. Similar to Cosmic Rewind.

I'm not hugely familiar with Muppets, so no idea what songs they have available to use, but presumably there will still be different songs per train.
