Had a decent day.

Thought I'd drop the bombshell to open.

Yeah, was on park from about 12.30-6 due to ridiculous traffic. Wasn't impressed at seeing a queue of no more than 6 or 7 groups take 15 minutes to process through the two open booths to get into the park. Had the words of those who've warned me and already visited the park this year ringing in my ears.

Bought a fastpass for Vampire and Dragons Fury as wanted to make sure we got everything done. Fury was very good, best ride on the park. Vampire was pants, we were to the back of the train so it was quite jerky which wasn't good on our bad backs, only real bits I enjoyed were the dip into the tunnel and one of the tight corners where you get fully horizontal. Bit of a let down tbh and that's going in with minimal expectations.

Went to watch one of the carnivore feeds, lucked out as it was the tigers, got a decent view (although it was poorly organised, a theme of the day) but people didn't really know where to go for a decent view or if there was anything going to happen (think there was an issue with speaker system or something). Rattlesnake was fun, not as rough as I'd feared.

They had loads of what were essentially wheely bins full of bottle water or sale. Looked tacky and a bit of a mess tbh.

I'm blabbering now, good luck making it this far.

Sea life centre was alright, probably slightly better than Blackpools.

Was annoyed that the show-times we had on-map and also on-line (and checked throughout the day on my phone) didn't match up with what was on park so we missed the odd show we wanted to see. But gf managed to elbow the kids out the way for a picture with something from Madagascar and we got to the front for the Sea-Lion show (which was brilliant, I do love a good sealion show).

Went on bubbleworks not knowing what it really was. Saw a mix of people coming off, some stone dry some soaked through. Weren't planning on getting wet. Fortunately just us two in a boat didn't create much of a splash and the jets were mostly just spraying us. Very fun quirky little ride, between that and the thing at Fantasy Island it really highlights how poor Charlie at Alton is.

Zufari. Loved the premise of it, it's unique (probably?), and anyone with a Seth Efrican accent is aces by me. Annoyance here was that when you left the viewing room, all the little brats ran through the doors and then ran through the queues. Instead of going back to their parents, they stood in the queue and stomped and screamed for their parents to join them in the queue. Essentially, queue jump/push past. Most to be fair didn't, but at least two waited until their kids were about to board, asked how many were in the party, kids said more and then screamed for their parents to come join and left them pushing past. Should have said something really but meh. Ride itself was actually a bit shorter than I thought, yet still on a grand scale, if that makes sense. Could probably do with something more happening at the end, the 'big surprise' seemed to get a big reaction from the younger ones riding though.

Tomb blaster was a laugh, longer than I expected. Problem here was chavvy kids. No more than 10 years old. Speaking some sort of undecipherable street slang that even I was oblivious to. Playfighting, swearing, abusing each other with crude terms that even I'd not dare use so openly in public (and the C word is a steady part of my vocabulary). Worst example came when they were play fighting, a girl slapped this young lad clean round the face and kicked him, he fell right back into me, no apologies, I pushed him forward and off me, he then screams at the girl that he's gonna rip out her womb. Ahhh, youth of today.

Thoughts on the place as a whole are mixed. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. As a theme park trip, even for those younger, it falls short imo. But as an overall day out, with a good selection and spread of animal exhibits and the sealife centre too, it's good. Definitely prefer it to Drayton as a family day out. Staff were mixed, operations were slow on some rides and brilliant on others. Some serving were a bit lost (I got asked how much what I was buying came to) but all in all they were making more of an effort than they were at Blackpool or Fantasy Island. But then it's more commercial, so it feels more forced from some.

Worst part by an absolute country mile though is this insistence to take your picture mid queue on Zufari, entrance of sea-life centre etc...

You all know what Chessington looks like so here's a picture of the chocolate waffle giraffe's I got that were hugely disappointing. They're not giraffes, they're not covered in chocolate properly and they weren't even warm.

Well that was more than I intended to write. And boring too. Ah well.

Na, that wasn't boring. It's always interesting to hear what others think of the park I've been to the most. Sounds like your biggest gripe was with the awful clientele. Ha, can't say I've witnessed as many awful brats at the park as you have. Can't say I've heard about the issue in regards to different advertised times for feeds/presentations, that is odd.

Sounds like you had a good time though which is rare to hear these days.

Was expected to be honest given it's summer holidays, and in fairness I don't think there was a queue above 45 minutes all day. And they were the only two noticeable breddahs mandem repping nuff bad respect to their ends. Or something like that.

Issue with the shows was with the penguin presentation advertised online and on-map for 2.30pm (so we went there after carnivore talk at 2.15) and it had taken place at 2. Tbf they do say it's subject to change, starting to learn it's worth not only ignoring whatever queue time they show at the front board as they're usually wrong but also to check when on park what time shows start rather than relying on other sources.

And yeah, my girlfriend loved it which I was pleased with because I felt I was struggling to sell it to her previously. Meerkats, penguins, breakdancing sealions managed to swing it though :p

Glad to see there's somebody else who thinks Vampire is pants :)

I think Chessington is really a park for fans, families and coupleswholikethatkindofthing. You seem to fit nicely into the latter bracket. Also worth noting that families generally implies awful parents whose idea of a family day out is to send their dreadful, foul mouthed brats into the park to entertain themselves while they sit in the pub drinking Stella. So it's really not much different from Fantasy Island really :p

God those waffles are sad. I keep looking at them and considering it. The idea of a waffle on a stick is genius at a theme park, executed badly though.

People who get wet on Bubbles splash themselves, impossible to get wet any other way.

Surprised but glad you liked Zufari. It SEEMS anyone who's ridden it since the weather picked up likes it. Those of us who had the "pleasure" of trying it out earlier in the year cannot see past it's downfalls. But I've not heard a bad word about it in a while now.

The kids sound annoying and I am sorry. Chessington can be nice - it's one of those parks you as a guest have to work for your fun and that kinda makes it a bad park I guess, but it's a good platform for a laugh. You should come to GhosterForce and see what I mean.

EDIT: Just so you know, it's actually called Chessington World of Untreated Wooden Fences.

Ugh, I hated this on Ice Age 4D at Alton Towers too.

I've only ever rode Vampire twice, both at night at GF's and enjoyed it. Couldn't hazard a guess at the **** layout either so will probably enjoy it again next time I ride it.

Aye, there were definitely a few who'd turned up just to let the park take care of their kids. To be fair bad experiences aside I had expected worse though. And yeah the only difference from FI is that there wasn't a knock-off Voi onesie in sight.

Semi-story behind it, had a waffle at wafflemeister the last time I was in London and OMG it was ridiculously good. Since then I've been getting them whenever I can in the hope I can find one anywhere near as good. This was a let down. Didn't even dip the head in chocolate as it was in the picture, just poured it on :(

They seem to have placed the feeding areas close to where the truck goes so on our ride you get relatively close to the giraffes. Can imagine if you can't see any animals up close, or if they're not out, you're essentially just being bounced around a field before going into a cave momentarily. Might explain some of the negative things I'd read beforehand which sent me in with minimal expectations haha

Yeah I'd agree with that, need to know what you're doing to get the most from the park and what it offers. Could happily spend consecutive days in the park though if I were to plan out the timing of each show properly.

Hahaha yeah I can see that.

At night and towards the front I'd possibly enjoy it, proximity to the trees was surprising.

Here's a question. This walkthrough monkey enclosure thingy. What is it? We saw a few people stood outside it but nobody seemed to go in for a while so we left it as were short on time. I can't imagine they let you walk amongst any sizeable animals, is it just a case of walking down a path (protected by fencing) with some monkeys running past and over the top?

That monkey thing hadn't been open every time I've gone past it for years.

Peep will know more than me though...

At Edinburgh Zoo there is a monkey enclosure which you can walkthrough. They started going **** nuts when I walked through it so got out of there quickly... the zoo must have been confident they don't/won't attack humans though?

Got a vague idea I've done the monkey walkthrough - it's basically a semi-circle around a pond, and if I remember rightly there's a member of staff telling you off for touching monkeys even though the little buggers leap around so much you don't have much choice.

Re: the monkey thing - You are actually in the enclosure with them running around. It's a bit naff though. The Lemur one at Drusillas is much more entertaining. These sort of attractions where you walk into an enclosure of small furry climbing jumpy things are fairly common at zoos from what I can tell.

At this one, the queue forms outside because they only take in a small group at a time and you have to have some lecture about not sneezing on them and **** first. We went in it at the start of this season. Jordan nearly wet herself with excitement, despite the fact that it was so cold, only one of them bothered to come out to see us. The dead pigeon on the roof of the enclosure is a nice touch though.
