What's new

Cedar Fair's falling out with Intamin?

I've missed this thread, been busy lately.

It always amuse me when people are getting into these kind of arguments.

Top Thrill Dragster was such a half-baked idea. Another reason why I'm glad Kinzel is gone. Mr. O. seems to have his head screwed on tight.

I am pretty sure Kinsel has gone on record saying if he had it to do all over again he would have NOT built TTD.

That being said I enjoy the ride as does the GP, and I think it is a great fit for the Point.

But aren't there loads of that concept all around the world, all pretty successful?

I'm talking about the early years of TTD. When the ride was closed more the first few seasons than it was open.

Dragster and Xcelerator were basically planned and designed at the same time. The Hydraulic launch was also new at the time. They only had a few months to get Xcelerator's maintenance down, which was only 82mph and 205'. Dragster is 120mph and 420', making every possible problem with Xcelerator amplified. We all know how unreliable the system was (at the time). They should of waited a few years to get all the bugs worked out before attempting something as grand as Dragster.

I'm not saying I'm mad that they did it because I love the Dragster. It's just that it could of waited, that's all. Not a smart business move at the time. The ride ended up costing much more than anticipated.

This I agree with, they sure should have waited a few more years to build it, but as it is now it sure as hell is one ass-kicking ride!

OK... fair enough. Suppose it's better to take a chance on what could work than wait around and let others catch up though.
