Cali & Coasters PTR- Day 8 Up! (Sea World and San Diego)

Re: Cali & Coasters PTR- Day 6 Up! (Disneyland)

^ It's super awesome! I guess I'd have to ride the Floridian version again to really make an accurate choice but from what I remember this one was better.

I had a third day there that I spent going back to both parks to do what I missed, on top of going to Knotts, which included the rapids.

I much preferred the Florida SM, I thought the Cali one just kind of went round and round? Still good though, because Disney, but yeah.

Re: Cali & Coasters PTR- Day 6 Up! (Disneyland)

^ Well I suppose I'd have to ride the one in Florida again then! It has been nearly twelve years so obviously I don't remember much. Maybe I'm just easily impressed... Anything that's indoors in the darkness pretty much impresses me.

It does just go round and round. I need to ride the one at disneyland again though.

DAY 7- Disney/Cali Adventure/Knotts

I woke up early once again so we could be at the park for opening. In my half-asleep state, I heard a bunch of sirens outside the window and thought it must be the end of the world. But soon, I got out of my groggy state and looked forward to my last day at Disney as well as my potentially last day of life :p After another 7/11 breakfast, we were at the park for eight and went straight to Indiana Jones in order to avoid the gross queues it would have by midday. We waited about fifteen minutes before we got on, which wasn't too bad.

Overall thoughts: Indiana Jones- I can see why the queues get so long because it's such an awesome ride. I didn't know what to expect at all and I was pleasantly surprised, despite some of the movements of the car being a little bit too erratic. My favourite part of the ride was at the end when the boulder is coming towards you! I don't know what else to say other than to not miss it when you're at Disney, but to do it early in the day.

I got a picture in front of the Adventureland sign...

As we crossed the centre of the park and headed into Tomorrowland, I took the opportunity to take another picture of the castle, as well as the horse and cart thing.

Ethan decided he wanted to ride Space Mountain since he sat out the first time, so we hopped in line for that and waited about ten minutes or so. He said he thought it was pretty fun, but still liked Big Thunder Mountain better. I had to laugh though, because there's a water fountain at the ride exit , so after he got off he went to drink from it and realized there was a massive pile of puke clogging the drain ahaha.

602827_10152365371600343_1477391770_n.jpg

Big Thunder Mountain was something we both wanted to ride again, so we went back and waited less than we had the first time we rode it. It stopped briefly just because they were putting another train on the track, so I got to teach Ethan some nerdy facts about transfer tracks <3

We noticed that Jack Skellington was out, so we went to meet him and ended up being the last people allowed in the line because he was leaving. He was awesome, and I like that they allow at least some of the characters to talk!

I wanted to do Many Adventure of Winnie the Pooh because I love Pooh, so we walked straight onto that!

Overall thoughts: Winnie the Pooh- Awww, I loved it. Winnie has like a bit of a special meaning for me mostly because when my uncle was bedridden from his brain tumor my mom would always go and read him the House on Pooh Corner book, and I'd be in the room as well and he always called me Piglet, so every time I see Winnie, it stirs up a bit of emotion. The ride itself was really cute, and obviously pretty similar to the one in Florida, but I can't help but smile when I see Pooh because he is just so adorable.

I wanted to meet Pooh, Tigger, and Eeyore, but just as we got there the characters were heading out, so I was bummed out.

Dumbo is peachy so I got a picture with his statue.

430908_10152365373265343_378533553_n.jpg

Because Ethan is a Star Wars fan, he wanted to go back a light saber (or a Jedi stick as I mistakenly called them), so obviously I complied because he finally spoke up and said what HE wanted to do instead of letting me plan and choose everything. Little did I know he would be hella annoying and put his light saber together in just about every combination possible. Then, he decided he wasn't even gonna buy it!

65159_10152365373425343_1741124059_n.jpg

Since that was all we had left at Disney, we said goodbye to it and went back to California Adventure. We got a fastpass for Soarin because I wanted to do it again!

As much as I was a bit too chilly to want to do water rides, I didn't want to miss out on the one at California Adventure, so I sucked it up and we walked right on.

Overall thoughts: Grizzly River Run- THAT DROP. Why can't all rapid rides have a drop like that? It was awesome! Although it wasn't the best rapids I have ever had the pleasure of riding, I enjoyed my experience on it despite the fact it would have been better had there been enough people to fill our big rubber seaty thingy. Most of the fun on those rides comes from being able to laugh at one another, but there weren't many people on the ride so that took away that element. The ride itself is really well done though and I was glad we didn't get too soaked, although my right leg and butt were drenched.

It was time for a cred, so we went to Goofy's Sky School and waited about ten minutes.

12557_10152365374225343_1225274558_n.jpg

Overall thoughts: Goofy's Sky School- Seemed like just a standard Wild Mouse to me, which is sad because things at Disney are usually amazing. Rides like this and Primeval Whirl piss me off because they just seem out of place in parks that have a decent atmosphere. I appreciated the theme because I go to flight school, but I didn't appreciate that it seemed to lack the amazing Disney theming so prominent everywhere else. Oh and Ethan was holding onto his backpack for comfort because he hated it.

Buzz was a bit of a bastard and he just walked right on by me, so I took a picture of his back.

537712_10152365374435343_246499516_n.jpg

Part of the reason I wanted to go back to the park was so I could buy this fab winter hat. My friends at home know I have a plethora of interesting winter hats, so I had to add this to my collection even though it was so overpriced. The picture of me is gross but the hat is fab.

12562_10152365374420343_1583475990_n.jpg

We wanted to go on Midway Mania again but the queue was long so we just gave it a miss. Damn, I wanted my revenge! So we just walked around the Paradise Pier area and snapped some pictures.

541670_10152365374585343_1955070467_n.jpg

We went back to Cars Land to grab a few souvenirs for Ethan's nephew who loves the movie.

After that, we were getting kind of hungry so we went to Ihop across the street for a meal. I knew that part of the reason I was feeling so badly was because I had maybe one meal that included meat since we started our trip. As much as I wanted the stuffed french toast, I felt like if I got some iron and protein I'd feel better, so I opted for the burger and fresh fruit.

44456_10152365374885343_1678897882_n.jpg

Ethan went back to the hotel to sleep since he was grumpy all morning, so I took the opportunity to go to Knotts. Sadly, I didn't realize the shuttles only ran every two hours, so I knew I'd only be getting about an hour and a half at the park. I had an interested conversation with the driver since I was the only one on the entire shuttle for most of the journey, and now I know only to cook my steak with rock salt! :p

First thing I noticed were the random chickens running around the parking lot.

399321_10152365375075343_184075116_n.jpg

When I got to the park, my Platinum Pass gave me grief AGAIN because it's Canadian and won't read on their system. I was annoyed because I had to sit around for twenty minutes which reduced my time from like an hour and fourty minutes down to an hour and twenty. Finally I got in and headed to Silver Bullet which was a walkon.

603342_10152365375080343_1549842437_n.jpg

Overall thoughts: Silver Bullet- WHY does it get all the hate that it does I'll never know. So it's not spectacular, but it does what most average B&M inverts do. It wasn't disgustingly forceful like some of them, and it had a lot of fun elements. I would have gone on it a few times if I had the time! I've been on many inverts and this was certainly not the worst, not to mention that the colours are fab.

Since I decided I'd just go in order around the park, Sierra Sidewinder was next, which was a mistake because I waited like fifteen minutes which used up some valuable cred time.

425676_10152365375305343_2029052214_n.jpg

Overall thoughts: Sierra Sidewinder- It was fun, but it was very meh and I was overall just irritated that I had so little time in the park and couldn't really enjoy anything. It's a good family ride though I'll give it that!

Montezooma's Revenge was in the area so I got in line for that and waited about ten minutes, which would have been a lot longer had I not asked another single rider if I could ride with him, much to his annoyance.

525126_10152365375750343_2096561593_n.jpg

In the line you get a pretty good view of Camp Snoopy, so I was watching the little kids ride the mine carts and noticed that one bratty one kept smashing into all the others and making them angry, which I found hilarious.

154965_10152365375865343_1242081197_n.jpg

547386_10152365376035343_688115092_n.jpg

I had to take a nerd shot of a piece of track on Montezooma's.

15778_10152365376025343_1713539642_n.jpg

Overall thoughts: Montezooma's Revenge- Other than the kick I got due to the fact it's SO RCT, and the reminiscing I did about making my peeps die on it when I would build one, it was a pretty boring and average ride. The launch was okay but that's about it.

Jaguar was next up since it was right beside Montezooma's, so I pretty much walked right onto that. It was funny because a woman had a go at the ride operator because her son was about half an inch too short to ride, which let's face it, wasn't the ride operator's fault.

3494_10152365376030343_629361214_n.jpg

I would have thought they put some good effort into the theming had I not been spoiled with Disney for three days.

62134_10152365375905343_1362196509_n.jpg

Overall thoughts: Jaguar- WTF? This was the most pointless, drawn out ride I have ever had the misfortune of riding. I actually thought one bit had some sort of a launch because there was just a MASSIVE piece of straight track that I later found out did absolutely nothing. The kids on it seemed to love it which is a good thing since that's the target audience, but I hated it.

Xcelerator was to be my last ride of the day unfortunately. If they actually ran more than one train I probably could have fit in another coaster or two, but no, their operation was dreadfully slow and I ended up waiting about forty minutes for a queue that should have been fifteen at the most.

533520_10152365376375343_1909260833_n.jpg

602698_10152365376500343_1937557347_n.jpg

I rode with a fabulous group of Chicago people who thought I was fab for ditching my boyfriend to get CREDS <3

Overall thoughts: Xcelerator- Out of Stealth, Xcelerator , Dragster, and Ka, I have to say this was my least favourite. I'm not sure I really saw any point to the overbanked turns really, and I didn't think the launch was as forceful as Stealth's, although statistically it might be.

The park was dead and I thought maybe I could get one more ride on something else, so I headed to Ghostrider. Sadly, I somehow got lost amidst a parade and couldn't find my way which wasted some time. I couldn't tell how long the queue was and I thought the shuttle came at five so I headed back to the shuttle station annoyed at how I didn't get all the creds. I was also annoyed that I had to wait there for twenty minutes, knowing that I could have ridden Ghostrider in the meantime.

15597_10152365376905343_1891653567_n.jpg

Knotts seemed like a pretty run of the mill Cedar Fair park to be honest, and it seems like it could easily be done in half a day as long as it's not jam packed. It was pretty dead on the day I went, and for only having the amount of time I did with half of that time being taken up by the Xcelerator queue, I still got five creds.

44392_10152365377105343_107218926_n.jpg

On the way back I realized I didn't tell Ethan where I was going to meet him, but thankfully he was at the shuttle stop waiting for me. I was really cold and had a gross headache by then, but I went back into the park and tried to find something indoors to do hoping it could pass the time before World of Colour. I stumbled upon two things I'm actually really glad I didn't miss: Turtle Talk and Animation Academy.

479733_10152365377755343_1505470966_n.jpg

Overall thoughts: Turtle Talk- OMG I loved it aha, it made me laugh <3 I didn't know what it was, I thought it was just going to be boring so I was pretty excited that it was actually really funny. Question though! For those who have done it before, what items has crush brought down to ask the audience what he should do with them? I want to know if it's different every so often!

Then it was time for Animation Academy.

425764_10152365377840343_742583722_n.jpg

Overall thoughts: Animation Academy- I could have kept doing this over and over to be honest. I thought it was going to be a dull video of how they make things animated, but it was fabulous drawing thing! The look on Ethan's face was priceless, because he hates drawing but I forced him to do it anyway. I was kind of annoyed we drew Phineas and Ferb because I don't even know who they are, but my drawing was amazing. If I can find it I will take a picture, not that they were hard to draw or anything.

We went into the Sorcerer's Workshop too but everyone was HOGGING everything so I just didn't bother because people don't know how to share obviously.

My headache was really bad by this point and I couldn't stick it out for two more hours for the show. It was also really chilly as well which wasn't helping matters, so we got an amazing hot chocolate and left.

That concludes day 7!

Yah and I probably spend too much time writing them! I like doing long trip reports though, especially because I can go back and look at them and remember all the details of my trips. Thanks for reading though, it's nice to know my hours of writing haven't been in vain :p .

Yahh it was a good trip. Only regrets I have are getting so little time at Knotts and not getting longer in San Diego. But that's okay, I expect I'll be back in California eventually.

Day 8- Sea World San Diego / San Diego

After a disgustingly early morning, we were at the Greyhound station around 6:20 in the morning ready to head off to San Diego. When we got there, I had a scary realization that the actual station opened at 6:50am and our bus was suppose to leave at 6:40, which was problematic because I still had to pick the tickets up. Thankfully, the bus was a few minutes late so we got our tickets right as the bus pulled up! The only thing I liked about that morning was the really pretty sunrise.

382131_10152367782305343_151102286_n.jpg

The bus ride there was just over two hours long, and oh my God it was horrible. I usually don't have objections to the Greyhound as I don't think they're as "peasant-y" as everything thinks they are, but this one really was. I'm not racist but the bus was full of Mexicans snoring and the inside of the bus was freezing cold. Thankfully I slept through most of it, and we got to San Diego just after nine. We had to take a few trollies to get to our hotel, but the trollies were fab! I really like that you didn't have to go up and down burdenous staircases to get to them like you do on the Metro.

418058_10152367782755343_628717705_n.jpg

We got to our hotel and they let us check in early with an upgrade to a king size bed!

537610_10152367782905343_1414611542_n.jpg

Since our hotel was right next to Jack in the Box, we had that for breakfast, which I approved of.

184460_10152367785280343_111540882_n.jpg

We then caught the trolley and the bus to Sea World, which did NOT take over an hour like Google Maps had said it would. It took more like half an hour.

We saw some reindeer, which I thought was silly since they tried making it look snowy by putting white sand in the exhibit. Not really fair since they're not from places that have sand.

314658_10152367787350343_372327259_n.jpg

We went to Animal Connections which was a bit whack considering I found out that porcupines are massive and poison dart frogs are adorable.

On the way to Journey to Atlantis we saw an area called SNOW WORLD, which was a tiny little hill made out of snow for kids to toboggan down. Needless to say, it had the longest queue in the park and of course we just sat back and laughed at how funny it was.

Since Journey to Atlantis had no queue at all, we headed to that next. Unfortunately for the people who were riding, we saw the water cannons, and even more unfortunately for them is that I have AWESOME aim. So, we took delight in soaking people.

Overall thoughts: Journey to Atlantis- Not as good as the Floridian one obviously, but still good fun although I HATED the elevator very much. It reminded me of Pilgrim's Plunge which scared me **** as well. The ride itself was pretty good and thankfully I didn't get too wet because I requested the back seat. I was surprised Ethan went on though since he said he wasn't going to at the start of the day.

As we pulled back into the station, our restraints wouldn't release so we ended up getting stuck for about ten or fifteen minutes. We sang happy birthday to people in the queue to pass the time and were generally making fun of how we "awakened the fury of the sea" as it says in the spiel.

Wild Arctic was next on the list and was also a walk-on.

Overall thoughts: Wild Arctic- LOL WUT!? I had obviously been spoiled by Disney at this point because everyone was umming and ahing about how great it was but I just sat there having hysterics with Ethan about how completely crap it was! The picture was grainy and I did not feel like I was taking a helicopter ride through the Arctic at all.

Thankfully the Arctic exhibit was a lot better than the actual ride!

Overall thoughts: Blue Horizons- I think the best part of the show was seeing people, who had been warned they were sitting in the splash zone, run for their lives when the whale was splashing them! But seriously, it was an okay show it just kind of felt a bit like a Cirque du Soleil show with a dolphin thrown in the mix every few seconds. It was alright though, and if you're at Sea World you might as well see it. There were also burdenous pigeons who kept flying around really low and I kept wondering if they were part of the show since there were a lot of birds in it. Turns out they were just wannabe actors.

Shark Encounter was nearby so we headed there. Sharks are the only sea creature my boyfriend likes so he got like, all into it.

I had to take a picture with the shark mouth skeleton because the mouth is open, much like mine is in a lot of photos!

We didn't ride that Riptide thing because it looked a bit boring but we went over to that area anyway because there is a nice view.

I wanted to see Clyde and Seamore Save Christmas so bad, but the next two shows were already full which was depressing since I remember the C&S show from Florida being really funny. So, these sea lion-esque things had to suffice.

Needless to say, they're adorable <3

We were near Manta, so obviously they had the ray tank for stingray petting purposes. I HATE stingrays but I touched one for like a second, which resulted in me getting grossed out and then having to waste ten minutes in line to wash my hands!

Then it was time for Manta, which I went on alone while Ethan waited. Sadly, on the way to Manta I was swinging my arms erratically as a joke, with my camera in my hand, and the camera swung out and was thrown about twenty feet onto cement. Thankfully it still somewhat works, but the screen was broken so I couldn't determine camera settings or where I was pointed. You'll find that the quality of my photos goes down even more from here on out! Hopefully I can get it fixed though because I love that camera.

Overall thoughts: Manta- It was a really fun ride actually! It looks like it doesn't do too much but I had a good time on it. The first half is a lot better than the second half and the initial launch is a lot stronger than I expected it to be. Certainly not to be missed upon a visit to Sea World!

I spent the time I had on the Observation Deck worrying about my camera so I didn't really get to enjoy it, which is probably good since those scare me anyway.

When we got back to the hotel, we napped for a little bit and then went out to the Gaslamp Quarter, which was pretty close to where we were.

There were a lot of stores and restaurants, which was perfect because I was getting pretty hungry. Remember, the photos are bad because my camera was ruined!

We decided upon a Thai Restaurant where I had coconut soup, which was one of the weirdest things I have ever tasted in my life, and a rice and beef thing. It was really good but there was too much food and I ended up getting heartburn from it!

I laughed at the name Pad Woonsen on the menu, I thought it was jokes.

I made Ethan go into two stores with me. One I went in only because of how crazy it looked!

The other I went in because it was dirt cheap so I bought a dress and new jogging pants. I would have bought a lot more if Ethan hadn't stopped me!

We called it a night after that! I wasn't super fond of Seaworld to be honest, but I realized that the more I seen of San Diego the more I really liked it and regretted only getting a day and a half there! There is a LOT to do and I didn't feel that a day and a half gave it the justice it deserved! The people were really friendly and it didn't have as many sketchy or bad areas as Los Angeles and Hollywood did!

That concludes day 8!

Yeah, no offence, 'cos this is a fab report, but Sea World San Diego looks s**t. Isn't it, like, $65 or something ridiculous as well?

^ Haha, I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't the greatest park on the face of the planet. Thankfully it was included in our City Pass, but individual admission is $70! Ridiculous! I really liked Sea World Orlando, but my memory might be skewed because it was ages ago, though I do remember it being better than the San Diego one.

To be fair it's more of a little zoo than a theme park. People who visit San Diego would be better off going to the San Diego Zoo, I reckon. At least Orlando's has more rides.

I'll write the last day tomorrow or something.

EDIT- Also, Gavin, why the **** would I take offense to you saying a park looks ****?! It's not like I built it, lmao!

San Diego is probably the nicest city I have ever visited. Absolutely love it, so beautiful, and then there is Sea World...

^It's lovely, I agree. I wouldn't go as far as saying the nicest city I've ever visited, but I absolutely loved it. I was catching up with loads of old friends and just having a general amazing time as well, though.

Sea World only had the one coaster at the time, and there was no way I was paying $65-$70 for one coaster and a **** load of animal cruelty. I saw it on the bus to Mission Beach though.

^ You guys are making me sad I didn't get to see more of it! All I really got to do in the time I had was Sea World, Gaslamp, Seaport Village, and Balboa park </3 I'll be back eventually, but still. To be fair, even though there are two coasters now, it's still not worth it! The City Pass was great though, it was $260 I think and it got us a 3 day Park Hopper at Disney, Universal admission, and Sea World admission. Each of those is like $80 on its own so I saved a lot of money.

^I need to do the California parks at some point - I've only done Magic Mountain - plus see more of California generally, so I'll try to remember then for whenever I manage to get back over there.

Can't remember how far back it was in your trip but I just wanted to say how awesome Cinnastack pancakes are at IHOP. I had them twice in Florida and only managed about a quarter of them each time no matter how hard I tried.
