Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Seeing as my starting wage at the Pleas * was one quid sixty an hour (1993) while he probably had cornflakes in champagne for breakfast and fillet of swan for lunch - not convinced dad was so wonderful either. *its authentic name

    The Brexit Thread

Also, at least this whole mess has put the "magic of the British constitution" bull**** to rest. One of only two countries in the world (I think) to not have a codified constitution (except for the EU stuff ironically). It's so flexible, and convention and precedent guides us seamlessly...

    The Brexit Thread

Nicely put. I see the EU as a counterweight to the Mad Max film that the Tories will turn the UK into if we let them. The EU is a fairly unsavoury capitalist megaproject, but does at least have some mild socially democratic policies that have done some good. What happened in Greece (Varoufakis...

Wild Mouse at BPB Closure - R.I.P. 1958-2017

I've had a tonne of my own bruises on The Mouse. I know. Okay. After work I'm finally going to do a post about the 90's Pleasure Beach. This circular discussion will carry on chasing its tail here, so instead I'll kill my saudade with an outpouring of nostalgia. New thread to come tonight.

Wild Mouse at BPB Closure - R.I.P. 1958-2017

I think I'm going to throw my laptop against a wall when I read the same kind of level-headed pragmatism when they tear the National down.

Wild Mouse at BPB Closure - R.I.P. 1958-2017

Let's not forget that Stoke-on-Trent is an architectural wonderland, Gaudí meets Mackintosh you could say, stuffed full of 20 year old millionaires, and with the oil reserves of Saudi Arabia.

Wild Mouse at BPB Closure - R.I.P. 1958-2017

If we're upset about it, where else can we moan about it except moan on a rollercoaster message board? Surely not everything you say has to make perfect sense all the time on here. You can have a merely emotional reaction to something and then blather on about it to some twats you don't know in...

Wild Mouse at BPB Closure - R.I.P. 1958-2017

It still makes me sad that I'll never ride it again. I'd swap it for Icon tomorrow. I miss the sound of it - the clattering, the squeals of people zipping past you above.

The National for me. Tonnes of airtime and laughter.

Blackpool Central Leisure Development- Announcement Imminent

Have you got links and photos to all that? I'd be really interested to see as much info as possible, particularly to anything in South Shore. Leyton Raikes as well? I hadn't heard anything about that site.

Blackpool Central Leisure Development- Announcement Imminent

Labour cancelled the casino. The Tories cancelled the University (which would have been located on the old Mecca site on Central Drive) so fingers crossed for this. The area and the town always need a boost after years of kickings, sometimes self-inflicted, but often coming from above. In fact...

    Spain June/July 2018

Worth noting that security at Atocha is due to the worst terrorist attack to ever happen in Europe there in 2004. 192 dead and thousands injured. They did decide to stick everyone's bags through a scanner after that.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach - Potential New Attraction on Trauma Towers Spot

Yeah. We'll start ripping the building apart but we'll just leave all the coin-op machines inside while we do it. Maybe we'll just leave them there under the first drop of the new 400 foot high ride.

    The Maccy D's Thread.

We've never had the good fries then. Apparently, it was the fries that got the company bought in the early days, not the burgers.

    The Maccy D's Thread.

i listened to a podcast that explained how their fries were AMAZING until 1990 and then they had to start cooking them in vegetable oil, which means they've tasted since cardboard ever since. It makes sense, because I remember them as being delicious but I'm disappointed when I eat them now...

Blackpool Pleasure Beach | Icon | Mack Multi-Launch

Day Trippers falling off does suggest that trains were a big factor. In the decades in which Blackpool has struggled more, it hasn't been short of day trippers, rather the people who would stay a whole week. Even in the 80s there were plenty of families that did that.
