Having no direction changes is quite good for a junior coaster, in my opinion. It depends on the age range it's aimed at, but the statement made it sound like it's as young as can be, whereas if you have the wild banking and direction changes, it can make it feel more like a family coaster...
When I was younger, the parks and coasters were definitely the highlights of my trips. The lowlights were the traffic and the actual journeys to get there. Just going by 2024 though:
Great Yarmouth
Highlight: Whilst I really enjoyed Pleasurewood Hills on Day 2 and could easily say that was my...
I prefer to know the layout, as I don't really like surprises. Whether it's a coaster, film, dark ride or anything else, I usually prefer it the 2nd time around - as long as I like it in the first place. Of course, there's always a first ride, but I find it more enjoyable after I've learned...
For me, it can only have been 1999. I visited Alton Towers, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Pleasureland Southport, Fantasy Island and Pleasure Island for the first time, so (after a tally-up on RCDB) that must have been about +20 credits.
I suppose every coaster has its fans, even if you don't notice them at the time. I can't say I miss a great many of the defunct coasters I've ridden; however, there are exceptions. I'm adamant that the Southport Cyclone was a great ride. I used to enjoy it more than Grand National and Big...
I deliberately plate up a duplicate course so I can have the exact same thing on Boxing Day. Always tastes better the day after too! Apart from that, I don't think there are any other leftovers.
My Christmas viewing this year:
BBC2 has been showing some quite-good quizzes in the evenings. Earlier on we have House of Games and Celebrity Mastermind. After that, we have Only Connect and University Challenge. Not essential, but it's nice to have as back-up.
On Christmas Eve I like...
Definitely. One extreme coaster per park, in my opinion. Probably something a bit like Velocicoaster in the main park, as well as the equivalent of Hagrid's. Then hopefully a Park 2 with a B&M hyper.
...
Another thing worth keeping an eye on is Wixams Station (which is to the east of the...
Assuming the coaster is going on the Postman Pat site (as rumoured), and with the possibility of the removal of Get Set Go Treetops Adventure as well, that will leave them with quite a gap in terms of rides that don't have any physical intensity at all. It's worth pointing out that Treetops...
Surprising news. Could be a Zierer Force, I suppose. They already have a Zamperla, and the Vekoma ones are probably more of a big deal than the way they're describing it.
Cheers for that, @Niles.
True. Do you remember the survey a couple of years ago, where they asked about other themes, such as Jungle, Knights etc? Personally, I would still like a Pirate, Jungle or Castle theme to come to the park. We'll have to see whether footers appear on the Go-Karts or...
Sorry for the delay, Matt, I meant to reply but forgot. We see and hear a lot of things when out and about, but often they seem funnier at the time. One thing does stand out though:
Once I was at Walton-on-the-Naze, when I saw a man on the beach in a thong. Another bloke was crouching down...
I believe that's Storm - The Dragon Legend, at Tusenfryd. This is a little bit smaller and with a lift hill.
Will be interesting to see who can establish themselves as a good alternative to B&M when it comes to inverted coasters nowadays - Gerstlauer or Vekoma. There are still quite a few...
Looks like no real construction updates are possible right now, but this is just to say that Raging River has been fully removed. Two clear areas are now forming - one east of Cobra and one west of it. More likely than ever we'll get a water ride and a coaster at once, I think:
I'm hoping Universal goes ahead and that's another chance for the UK to get a proper B&M hyper, of the typical layout and length. They have the money and the permission to build something of that height, plus Universal has built a (small) one before. Doesn't even need to be UK's tallest (200ft...
Excellent. I have a very, very good feeling about this one. I read the Robert Louis Stevenson book a few years ago, actually, and yeah, it was a good story, but I think they're onto a winner by making an animal version. Hopefully parks are realising that if you're going to have a massive dark...
29 November 2024 - Beach Huts and Blizzards
Walton-on-the-Naze. This is the place referred to in the Blur song Tracy Jacks, as well as the Ted & Ralph Christmas Special. I hadn't been here for a while, and it was a fine day, so it was time for a visit. I parked just south of the Naze...
This song has been my vibe all year - Margarita by Sleepy Brown, featuring Pharrell Williams and Big Boi. I used to come in from work in the 2000s and relax with the music videos on TV. I only caught bits of this song, but never knew who it was (only that it sounded like Pharrell). I picked...
Yes, I enjoyed that one. It's really an excuse to show the best scenes on stage, isn't it? But I did enjoy it.
I re-read the Sherlock Holmes stories, so I'll review them as a block, if I may:
A Study in Scarlet (1887). The first Holmes story. Whilst the first half is remarkable, the book...
