September 5, 2018 – Busch Gardens Williamsburg announced that both their theme and water park will be getting new attractions in 2019. Coming to the Ireland themed area within Busch Gardens Williamsburg is Finnegan’s Flyer, a pair of S&S Worldwide’s Screamin’ Swings, while Water Country USA will receive a large new slide called the Cutback Water Coaster.
Finnegan’s Flyer will be located left of the Ireland entrance as guests cross the bridge and the attraction’s arms will swing riders out over the ravine below while soaring over 80 feet (24m) into the air at speeds reaching 45 mph (72.5 km/h).
Promoted as “the only RocketBLAST coaster on the East Coast and Virginia’s first hybrid water coaster,” Cutback Water Coaster will replace the Meltdown toboggan slide, and utilize a similar layout as well as some of the original slide’s hardware. Cutback will use Proslide’s water propulsion system will be used to propel the rafts through the uphill sections, with the layout featuring five of the company’s “flying saucer” turns, although the raft does not go through the entire saucer.
