January 5, 2019 – Only a few months after announcing their new Skyline Attractions’ Skywarp Horizon, Tidal Twister, SeaWorld San Diego was at it again with the confirmation of a new B&M (Bolliger & Mabillard) Dive Coaster for 2020. The 153 foot (46.5m) tall Mako will have a 143 foot (43.5m) first drop, almost 2,500 feet (762m) of track and reach a top speed of 60 mph (96.5 km/h), making it California’s tallest, longest and fastest dive coaster. In addition to the trademark three second hold at the top of the vertical drop, Mako will feature an Immelmann loop, barrel roll, hammerhead turn, and a flat spin.
With a similar size as Liseberg’s Valkyria, the dive machine will also use floorless trains that have three rows of six riders and will be located behind Journey to Atlantis in a portion of the current parking lot.
SeaWorld San Diego also announced plans to renovate other areas of the park over the coming years, including the Shark Encounter and Penguin exhibits.
