Bit of a silly question, but was Magnum Force named because of it's Magnum sponsorship or did Magnum decide to sponsors it because their ice cream name happened to match that of the ride? As in which came first?

OK, not coasters, but not worthy of its own topic, and this seemed like a vaguely logical place to put it.
We were sorting through Nan's photos at the weekend, and found the ones from her Cali/Vegas trip. I can't remember exactly when she went, but I was still quite little, so some time in the late 80s probably. I've scanned in the park related ones I found. They're all dreadful quality, but amused me nonetheless, so thought I'd share
There's a couple of Jungle Cruise:
Some of the Mark Twain:
Loads of the parade:
One or two from Universal:
My favourite thing I found though was the notebook from her trip, featuring her Disney ride count <3

Researching Great Yarmouth Pleasure beach for the guide I'm writing and came across these.
I know that Scenic Railways are slow and plodding, but there was a reason for it and this image shows why:
The things were originally like a modern dark ride, or Expedition Everest, type of thing. So you went slowly around scenes and then would drop suddenly (if slowly by today's standards) into a new scene area.
I'd have loved to have seen one of these things in their glory days.
And speaking of Great Yarmouth, obviously there's this footage from 1982 from when Stone Cold visited (the park is featured later in the video):

The site has some good pics and if you scroll to the bottom of the page there's a pic of the Grand National being built! (Although incorrectly referred to as the Scenic Railway being rebuilt).

It's a standard Figure 8 "Toboggan". There were huge numbers of these around, and they even had travelling versions of them. I think most seaside towns that once had a Switchback upgraded to these - they were more numerous than our current seaside Pinfari kiddy coasters

The ride was originally supposed to be called Mach 3 - it was on the construction boards the previous season - but actually opened as Magnum Force, complete with the sponsorship. I don't know the details, but it would be safe to assume that during the closed season a sponsor was found and a change of name made to go with it. The name and the sponsorship happened at the same time: when the ride first opened.

I can't believe they replaced the old Energizer/Bone Shaker with the equally as **** Submission...
Anyway, I love this:
The ride apparently opened with a gap in the track after the cannon barrel. The idea was that you shot from the cannon and launched over the air and landed on the track.
It was tested with sandbags and worked properly.
Then they tried it with real people... It kept missing due to the weight differences of real people :lol:
I think the designers went on to work for Gerstlauer
