Yeah, wasn't that island earmarked for the 2015/6 addition before DBGT happened? Would make sense for them to design Swarm like that if the intention was to only keep it that way for a few years, but it's now got to the point that two of the park's main attractions have been completely isolated...
Meanwhile, the first drop of The Swarm, the second tallest thing at Thorpe right now after Stealth, is 127ft tall. That's nearly 40ft lower than this ride's "shortest" element! This thing is gonna completely tower over the rest of the park and I cannot wait to see it completed.
Don't forget this plan dates from 2010, so before the Swarm opened, before the Shark cabins were added on the alt coaster 2 site in lieu of a proper hotel on the mainland, and before the initial plans for a 40m ride on the back island were scrapped in favour of Ghost Train. It's been over a...
This is where I'm at with Hyperia. Does it give the UK the big long traditional airtime machine it's been sorely lacking for so long? No, and while this project, with its focus on the height record, would've been the perfect opportunity to do it, I think we'll still get something like that...
Yup, there's a small car park near the Olympic Park, sandwiched between the UK's 4th biggest shopping centre and 5th busiest train station, both of which are often severely overcrowded. Perfect place for a massive arena coated in bright LED panels, surely? Still, at least there aren't any other...
I mean, if they couldn't have Icarus, choosing another Greek mythological figure that just so happens to have the coaster type in her name is not a bad alternative! Picking one of the more obscure members of the pantheon should also give them a decent degree of creative freedom (I at least...
you see, I'd be right there with you on this being a studio tour or uncharted-style intamin.. if the park didn't already have a multi-dimension coaster right down the path. Yes, it wouldn't be the most redundant addition we've seen a park make and they can certainly make the ride different...
See, I wanted this for a potential Loggers replacement years before we even had rumbling of Exodus happening. Such a shame they didn't go for that, maybe they couldn't find the space?
I was always expecting this ride to have a lighter theme than most Merlin rides given its size, but if the...
Was the old track so faded that they forgot what the original colour was? Anyway, the silver is nice but I hope they give everything a coat of paint when it's all done. That teal was such a lovely shade and gave the park's skyline a much-needed pop of colour.
Not to mention that Universal already has a Sesame Street area in their Japan park, so would likely have experience working/negotiating with Sesame Workshop.
The resort aspect is an interesting point actually. There's that big stretch of path from the park entrances to the train station...
Is there much spare land available around Ferrari Land? If Universal want to keep PA basically as is with less IP stuff, I can see a heavy reworking and expansion to the second gate so they can still have a Universal Studios park in the resort. That said, with how the Studios parks now focus...
Ain't that brilliant, first the UK is hosting Eurovision, then Mission Ferrari has an opening date, and now hell has literally frozen over? All of that and we *still* don't know when this thing is reopening. I bet we'll have flying pigs soon too...
Hope so, I'm planning to visit the park for the first time in May when I'm up that way for Eurovision in Liverpool. Would be awkward if it wasn't ready by then - imagine taking so long that the equivalent of hell freezing over happens before you're finished!
Anyone feel like humouring the idea of the new Shockwave trains using the surf coaster design?
We're already getting the 1994 trilogy, it's just that the Big One's grown a few feet and moved to Chertsey! (Not to mention we've seemingly got that Legoland thingy in 2024 too.)
I always considered water rides to be great crowd-pleasers. You can pack in a surprising amount of thrills into a log flume drop, but you're still gonna attract people who wouldn't touch a rollercoaster of the same size or even smaller. I was always too scared to go on any rollercoaster as a kid...
iirc, the LTDP from 2016 included plans to move the staff base camp to where the Trail of the Kings is currently located, with that part of the zoo moving to a new site behind Tiger Rock. At the time, the plan was to use the area for entertainment such as soft play or a 4D theatre, but these...
