Bellewaerde builds Europe’s first dueling Alpine coaster

Ypres/Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium

January 28, 2017 – Bellewaerde announced Dawson Duel, Europe’s first dueling Alpine coaster, as the park’s new-for-2017 attraction. Named after Canada’s Dawson City, the halfway mark for the Yukon Quest, the ride is themed around the world’s toughest dog sled race.
Built on a man-made hillside, the attraction will consist of two parallel tracks which allow riders to duel with each other during an exciting race to the finish at ground level. Before they start their decent, park guests can enjoy the scenic walk up a unique bridge to reach the top of a 82 foot (25m) tall tower between the tree tops.
An investment of 4 million Euros has been provided for the development and construction of the attraction. “This unique attraction is custom-made for our familial target group, whereas the walk to 25 meters high as well as the race downwards will be a challenging duel,” according to Stefaan Lemey, director of Bellewaerde. “The investment in this attraction is one of the biggest since 1999 and emphasizes the trust our parent company Compagnie Des Alpes has in Bellewaerde.”
